"Joe, I'm worried about this"
Dianne turned to her boyfriend. They had only been together for 10 months so this for them was a big step.
2 months ago they found out really unexpectedly that dianne was pregnant. There was an instant wave of panic from both of them when they found out. They had only been together 8 months at the time, so they hadn't been together long. But the one thing that got dianne worried was that they had to tell Joe's daughter. Joe already was a dad and had been since he was 17. One day there was a knock on the door and there on his doorstep was a baby along with a note saying he was the father and the mother didn't want her. Instead of taking it the wrong way, joe took in the baby and raised her. He named her freya and they were extremely close. Still to this day, they never knew who the mother was but it didn't matter, freya had dianne which was the closest thing she had to a mum.
"Dot, shes old enough to understand what's going to happen, you dont need to worry about it"
Joe told her
"But that's why I'm worried joey. She's 11. That's old enough to know that 10 months together isn't long. What if she thinks it's way to early? It's always been you and her, and was for 10 years. First of all I walk into her life and now she's going to have a sibling. 11 is old enough to know how a baby is made and now she has to have this pregnant woman shes only known for 10 months, carrying her sibling, around her. What if she doesnt want that?"
Dianne said
"I know but please dont worry, if she takes it the wrong way, I'll explain it to her. And yeah your right, she's older enough to understand but she'll come round to it. Eventually she'll love her little brother or sister. Is it the age gap your worried about too?"
Joe asked and she nodded
"If we try and looks at it this way, if we waited let's say another 3 years to have kids she would of been 14. Then there would be a bigger age gap"
Joe explained
"I know but....I'm just scared"
She whispred
"It will be ok, I promise, have you got the ultrasound photos to show her?"
Joe asked. Dianne had an ultrasound at an early 8 weeks a few days ago as her midwife thought she could be high risk but it turned out she wasn't. But it was good that they went and checked.
"Yeah I've got them"
She stuttered.
"Ok, lets tell her then"
Joe took a deep breath. He took her hand squeezing it tightly and they went and sat down in the living room which was where they were going to tell her. Joe called her down from her bedroom to tell her the important news.
"You ok?"
Joe asked as she walked in the room
"Yeah, fine. Why do you need me?"
She said back and sat down
"Dianne and I need to talk to you about something......really important"
Joe said and freya started to listen carefully.
"Right freya, you're old enough to understand now so we want to talk about this seriously. Very soon, we're going to become a family. Me, you, dianne and....."
Joe told her before freya interrupted him
"A family? Is dianne becoming my mum or something?"
She asked
"Ummm....not quite. I know this may come as a shock to you. It definitely did for me and dianne. We were shocked when we found out. And we want you to know this was a accident, but definitely not a mistake"
Joe told her
"What is it then?"
Freya just wanted to know and not have joe going on leading up to the big moment.
"Me and Dianne are having a baby. Shes pregnant"
Joe squeezed diannes hand tighter. Diannes heart was beating as she waited for a reaction from freya. Hopefully a good reaction.
