"Dot, I'm back "
Joe called through the houses, his voice echoing. There was no answer.
It was quiet, silent in fact. Normally dianne would come rushing to the front door to greet him.
"Dianne"
He shouted but again there was no answer. He wondered into the kitchen and the first thing he saw was dianne. Her hair all messy, mascara ran down her face, wrapped up in a dressing gown whilst sat at the table staring into space.
"What's wrong?"
He was instantly worried.
"I don't know what to do"
She stood up and cried into his shoulder. Joe's overprotective side which had always been there for her came out as he wrapped his arms around her and pressed a soft kiss to her forehead.
"Why? What's wrong? Has somebody said something to upset you?"
He asked
"The ivf.....its failed"
His heart dropped. Those were the words he never thought he'd hear but always played in the back of his mind.
It was their last resort. The last round and it had failed. A million things ran through his mind. They had spent thousands of pounds on the ivf treatment and it didn't work. But it didn't matter about the money. It mattered that now their plan having their own biological children was out of the window. A few months back they were told that the clinic couldn't find a healthy surrogate so they couldn't turn to that. So now they were out of options.
"Why the hell did we spend 3 years doing this if we knew this was gonna happen? We should of gotten tested sooner "
She looked down at the floor. Even the way she spoke was heartbreaking.
"No dont say that. This has been a learning curve for us dot. It's brought us closer together and even though it's not worked, we've both learnt a hell of alot from doing this these past few years. I'll take full blame for it not working. It's my fault ok."
He ran his hands through her hair
"Its not your fault "
She whispered
"Dianne. It is. I'm the one who was meant to start this all off. And as a guy, I'm so upset that I couldnt make you happy. Give you what you deserve. And it's me who's failed darling. Not you. Please dont blame yourself"
He told her
"Ok......."
She took a deep shakey breath.
"That's it, deep breaths"
He told her and then they just stood there in eachothers arms.
"Why dont you go and have a shower maybe? Go and get all that makeup of your face and we'll go and cuddle up in bed. I'll order something of uber eats. Anything you want. And you can facetime your mum. We'll have a chill evening and just talk about it. Does that sound ok?"
He asked her
"Yeah, thank you"
She stood on her tip toes, pressing her lips to his before going upstairs and starting the shower.

Joe sat on their bed, watching dianne day her hair. He just felt sad. First of all that they couldnt have kids the normal way but what made him even more upset was that he couldn't make dianne happy. The one girl he ever wanted this with and it couldn't happen.
She was dressed in a fluffy onsie and was sat on the chair of her dressing table in the corner of the room. A few years ago they brought their own house together in hope it was a place they could raise their children but now....well that wasn't the case. It wasn't the flat which joe rented anymore. The flat which dianne transferred all of her stuff into. It was their house. Their own mortgage, a place they shared and layed fo together.
"I've had an idea "
Joe said as dianne turned the hair dryer off. Her hair was still a little damp, but she didnt care. She just wanted to get into her warm bed and cuddle with her joey whilst eating fast food. She made the way over to joe and sat against the head board whilst resting her head on Joe's chest.
"I'm not sure what you're going to think about this. I dont want to make you do anything you dont want to do. I don't want you to feel hurt or anything like that. I will sacrifice anything if this is what you want. I'll pay any money in the world. "
He started
"What is it then?"
She asked him
"Would you ever consider adoption?"
He asked
"Adoption?"
She paused and joe nodded.
"I suppose so.....theres some kids out there that I know we can give a good life to. What do you think about it?"
She said
"It will be hard being in the public eye but we will get a child out of it and thsts what we want. Its what you want. What I want, isn't it"
He told her and dianne nodded
"Yeah, but are you sure? I want you to feel comfortable and feel like were doing the right thing "
He asked
"Of course we are jospeh"
Dianne smiled. She smiled for the first time in ages. With everything happening and going on at once it had gotten her really down. For the first time in years, her mental health was rocky and she felt at risk. So the happy smiley dianne joe once knew had gone. She had totally disappeared.
"You smiled then"
Joe smiled. He was happy she was smiling
"Did I?"
She smiled again giggling
"You just laughed "
Joe said
"I did....oh my god"
She laughed again
"Joseph.....I'm happy. Like im actually happy. I'm smiling genuinely "
She told him
"I know I can see. I'm so proud of you"
He said
"Were so soppy getting emotional over the fact I smiled"
Dianne laughed
"So you want to go through with it. Find out how adoption works "
He said and dianne nodded
"Gosh.....I'm so in love with you "
He kissed her
"I'm in love with you too"
Ol so I know I've done so many one shots on things like this but i dont think I've ever done one of them actually discussing their other options which in this case is adoption.
Please leave ideas for this, I'll credit you.
Also if you suggest something and I somt do it, I'm sorry. I do try and write every single request but some I just dont have the ideas for.
