"What?!"
"I said, you should take this medicine instead-"
"WHAT?! CAN YOU SPEAK LOUDER?!" Hoseok sighed before removing his stethoscope and passing it to the old man sitting on the gurney and gestured for him to put it on.
A little sceptical, the old man placed the stethoscope in his ears and waited for further instructions.
"Can you hear me now?" Doctor Jung spoke gently while raising his brows in anticipation.
You too waited beside the doctor to see if it had worked.
"Of course I can hear you! I'm not deaf you know! You guys were the ones whispering" the old man grumbled before crossing his arms in exasperation.
You two could only sigh at his obliviousness and it was clear why he had come to see Doctor Jung.
"I'm going to ask a nurse to go get your ears tested and hopefully, we can get you a pair of hearing aids to help you with your hearing" Hoseok gestured for a nurse to come by and take the old patient away.
"Hearing aids? But you guys are the problem! You shouldn't be whispering to me!" The nurse came by and gestured to the stethoscope that the old man was wearing.
"Let him have it, he'll need it" it was a little past lunch time and you had already met your first patient.
Although you didn't do much, you were happy that you didn't have to deal with that loud old man.
"Not a great start to our afternoon shift, huh?" Hoseok joked, trying to lift your mood up.
His happy-go-lucky expression reminded you of how different he could actually be.
How venomous and full of hate.
You wanted to know why.
"...Doctor Jung? Can I ask you something?"
Wait! He'll find out that you're the girl from the children's ward!
I want answers!
"Yeah, of course you can!" He almsot chirped, loving the feeling of mentoring someone at his workplace.
You gulped nervously before speaking up.
"...why do you treat me differently sometimes?"
Well done, Y/N. You've just gone and done it.
The chestnut haired male tilted his head in confusion. He doesn't remember treating you differently but something clicked within him.
His expression quickly became nervous and he averted his eyes away from yours.
"...what was I like?" Strange. Usually when you ask a question, you get an answer.
"Well... you didn't recognise me when you came to work this morning and you thought I was a patient. Not only that but, you were very different when I was designated to look after the children the other day" his eyes widened at your words.
"You're that Doctor? The one who lost the keys? The one who chased after the boy in the hallway? That same doctor?!" You could tell that he was beyond shocked but why was he the one asking questions?
"Err, yeah... I'm the same Doctor..." Hoseok looked as if he was having a war inside his head and you didn't know what he was fighting about.
This went on for awhile until the older dropped his hands by his sides and let a defeated sigh escape his lips.
