Chapter 9: The morning before disaster

Suga's POV:

Ah yes, Monday. How could I ever forget what happened that day? I had woken up pretty early to go to school and I was extremely tired, you could tell just by looking at me. I had noticeable dark circles and puffy eyes from crying. I stayed up a little too late talking to Asahi and I let out a lot of emotions. He's a good listener so I didn't hold back, I cried a lot and also let out a lot of anger and frustration I didn't know I had. Apparently you can be angry at someone for being hot and irresistible.

Poor Asahi he's probably tired too and we have a match today. I was not looking forward for the day for various reasons: the entire team knew about my breakdown on Saturday, I was gonna have to face  Daichi and we had a match against Johzenji High school while I was currently in a zombie state. After getting dressed in the school's uniform, chugging a cup of coffee and brushing my teeth I headed out and walked towards school. I was about half way there when someone tap my shoulder.

It was Asahi...he looked worse than I did. "Morning" he smiled but I could tell he was nervous about something. "Hi" I stopped walking and looked at him with my face tilted to the side. "Please don't make things awkward when Daichi joins us, you know too much now." I crossed my arms and raised an eyebrow. "I-I uh yeah I won't make things uh awkward" he looked down and rubbed the back of his neck. "Oh no...you've been overthinking haven't you? That's why you look even more tired than me, you were thinking all night!!" Asahi sighed and looked away, I have no idea why but he started to whisper. "I just- I entered a mental spiral last night and I'm worried, I don't want this situation to end with you and Daichi's friendship or change the team's dynamic or-" I took a deep breath before cutting him off, "STOP IT WITH THE NEGATIVITY" I slapped his back and he winced "that's for me to worry about, besides we are mature third years and we will be able to work it out" I sounded like I was trying to convince myself more than reassure Asahi.

Seconds after that discussion, I heard someone yell from a distance "Guys wait!!" It was Daichi, running towards us. At this moment, I had no escape, I had to face him. When he caught up he was panting, he must've run all the way from his house to meet up with us. Asahi was trying to act normal, I repeat TRYING because he didn't do a good job at it. "Uh hey" he waved awkwardly even though Daichi was literally in front of him. I put my hand on my face and shook my head. This guy. Daichi smiled "Hey, how are you guys doing?" When he asked how we were doing he straight up looked at me, it made me flinch, you could tell he hadn't been sleeping either. I felt really bad at this point. I eventually looked at him and said "Hi". It was awkward between the three of us and it had never been. I was starting to worry if Asahi was right...will this mess up out friendship?

We were all walking in silence now and I could feel Daichi staring at me. I'm the worst I didn't even text him back yesterday, throughout the entire day. Then I heard my phone buzz. I took it out of my pocket and it was Daichi. My head snapped to look his way and he made a face as to say 'go on, read them', I sighed and entered me and Daichi's private chat.

Yesterday's messages:

Daichi<3: Suga?! What happened?! Why did you leave like that? Please tell me what happened
Daichi<3: Come on Suga answer me please
Daichi<3: You're worrying me
Daichi<3: You have no idea how worried I am
Daichi<3: I'm gonna stay awake for as long as I can okay? So I can be here, awake if you need me at some point

Daichi's worrying messages went on and on and it was hard for me to read them. It was hard to know how much he had been worrying yesterday, but I proceeded to read until I got to the texts he just sent.

Today's messages:

Daichi<3: Can we talk after school? Please?
Daichi<3: How much did you sleep? You look tired.

Me: Sure, we can talk after school.

I decided to lighten up the mood a little...

Me: Why captain? Do I look THAT bad?

I felt myself smile so I turned to look at Daichi and he was smiling too. Asahi kind of knew what was going on because he had a knowing grin on his face.

Daichi: You never look bad Suga.

I felt my heart beat fast and my cheeks started to heat up.

Me: I missed you yesterday, I feel bad for not answering

Daichi<3: Then make it seem like you missed me, be more obvious about it...hug me or something Idk. It's not like you to be this cold 

I couldn't help but laugh quietly, I put my phone in my pocket and walked towards Daichi eventually hugging him and burying my face in his neck. Asahi kept on walking while giving me a smirk along the way. Daichi wrapped his arms around me, I had forgotten how safe and warm he made me feel and how intoxicating his scent was. We stayed like that for a few minutes in silence, enjoying the moment until we heard the school bell and rushed to class.

The last few peaceful hours were filled with work, a few tests and classes. And then, at end of the school day
