"Why don't we try reminding him who you are and who we are." Mew suggested while we're having dinner.
"Do you think it's a good idea?" I asked Kao who is meticulously slicing his steak.
"Well, the way I see it Phi, I think it's okay. A trigger can help him remember. But there is really no assurance." He said, still slicing the steak.
"Wouldn't he get surprised? And Isn't it weird?" I asked Gulf. He smiled, and I already know it is weird indeed.
"You know what, do it subtly. There is nothing wrong in trying." Mew advised me.
Well, I really thought it was a weird idea because it only happened in movies and television, right? But anyways, I ended up doing it anyways.
MONDAY.
I'm eating alone again at the table behind the table whete Hera and her friends are eating and chatting happily. I want to dislike them but it is their freedom to sit with whomever they want to sit with. And definitely I'm not in their list.I bought cha yen and nom yen. The nom yen is for me, while the cha yen is for August. I have a strong feeling that he will join me in my table today.
And he did! He did not say a word. Not even a hi. He just sat there, not acknowledging ny existence.
"Hi, Khun August." I greeted him.
He took a glance, smiled a bit, then returned to his food.
"Would you like some cha yen?" I offered him.
He took a glace and said, "No, thank you."
"It's free, don't worry about it. You can have it." I insisted.
"No, thanks. It sweet. I do not like sweet things." He firmly said.
I noticed that he tried to eat as fast as he can, maybe so he can avoid a weirdo like me.
He really changed. Because the August that I know loves cha yen. He has never ever declined a cha yen. What could have happened to him. He's like a different person now.
TUESDAY.
Mew forced me to bake some matcha white chocolate chip cookies. He said that August loves to eat the cookies I used to bake.I have to wake up so early just to bake the cookies. I'm wondering if this will help. The August of nowis so different from the August of yesterday. I do not think he has any resemblance to our friend August.
I arrived early at school so I just left the box of cookies on his table at the research lab.
When he saw the box, he immediately came to me as if he already know that it is me who gave the cookies.
"This is from you, right?" He showed me the box of cookies. I nodded. "I think I made myself clear yesterday that I do not want to eat something sweet. I'm giving it back to you." And he left the box of cookies on my table.
What a douche. I hate this August more than the old August. At least the old August is discrete. Why am I even making an effort to do these things? What's the point?
WEDNESDAY.
Mew told me to bring up a case to August. It's the Filartiga v Peña-Irala case. August hates discussing this case because one time, in our International Law class, both of us were called to answer some questions regarding the case. It was a graded recitation. At the end of the class, I had more points than him. He took it to heart and I think it hurt his pride as a law student to have a lower score compared to me, a student from the faculty of political science. Since that day, he never talked about that case, but since that day, Mew and Tawan began teasing him about it.
