Fourteen: On Fridays

Ring. Ring. Ring.

It's the fifth time that my phone rang. I know automatically who it is: Earth.

"Hmm-"

"P'KAO!!! WHERE ARE YOU?! I THOUGHT WE'RE GOING OUT?!" He said in an angry and loud voice.

"Calm down." Silence. "I'm at the hospital." I informed him.

"WHAT?! THE HOSPITAL?! DON'T TELL ME YOU'RE WORKING RIGHT NOW? HOW ABOUT YOUR PROMISE? PHI, YOU HATE PEOPLE BREAKING PROMISES, AND NOW YOU'RE DOING IT?! He said it so fast it sounded as if he's rapping.

"I said calm down." Silence. "Remember the kid you saw last time? She'll be discharged today. I'll see her off." I explained.

"Really?" Now he sounded excited.

"Yes. You can just pick me up at the hospital. Bring your car. I didn't bring mine."

Earth arrived at the hospital just in time for my patient to go. Earth rolled down the window of his car and waved at us.

"Please feel free to contact us if you have questions or if you need anything." I told my patient's mom.

"Thank you very much, Doctor."

I got down to talk to my little patient.

"Don't forget to drink your medicine. And always listen to your mom, okay?" My patient nodded. "Take care of yourself and your mother." She nodded again.

"Doctor handsome." My patient said. There's smile on her face. "Take care of him too."

"Him?" I had a feeling of what she meant but I just wanted to confirm.

"That guy in the car. Take care of him. My grandmother told me that we should take care and keep those people that make us smile." She said it too enthusiastically that I don't know what to say. Until now, I always feel like this when other people talk about Earth and I, and well, feelings.

"Does he make me smile?" Yeah, I asked a stupid question that even my patient chuckled.

"Yessss." She said as she nodded and smiled. "You just smiled a while ago."

"I did?" I asked her again. She nodded happily.

"And everytime you are with him. You always smile. And you always look happy when he is around." After she said this, she motioned her hand her to tell me to get closer to her. "I think he has a crush on you." I just stared at her while she grinned at me.

Earth was also grinning at me when I got into his car.

"What?" I asked him as I put on my seatbelt.

"You're being sociable now." He laughed. "Yes, yes, start socializing with kids. They got tons of energy. When you get used to them, you'll get used to talking to more adult next time." He said sarcastically.

I just ignored him as he chuckled with the thought of me socializing with kids.

When we reached our first destination, I thought he got the place wrong. Apparently he did not.

The place looks like an old house but it is full of movie posters on the ouside.

"What is this place?" I asked him as we enter.

"It's a place that shows old movies. I've been out for quite sometime, I wanted to watch some movies I've missed." He explained.

"Welcome, welcome." Greeted the old man on the reception.

"Mister, what's showing today?" Earth asked, he has so much anticipation in his eyes.

"Well, it's a thesis movie." The old man replied without explaining further.
