"Honey, use your words and tell us what you're talking about," Uncle Jerry told Hayley as he put his hands on her shoulders to make her stop jumping up and down.

"It only says tame!" Aunt Hayley screeched at such a high pitch that Al flinched and had to cover his ears for a second.

"What?" Al asked confused since he couldn't understand her.

"She said that the prophecy uses the word tame," Jerry translated.

"So?" Al asked with a raised eyebrow.

"Tame has multiple meanings," I said not fully able to comprehend what was happening.

"Exactly!" Hayley yelled with a smile that could put anything to shame.

"So you're saying that the prophecy might mean something other than kill when it comes to tame?" I asked feeling hopeful.

"That's exactly what I'm saying," Aunt Hayley told me.
I felt tears roll down my face from happiness as her words finally hit me.

"Zylee," I heard Al whisper before he picked me up in his arms and twirled me around. Sparks erupted within me at our contact.

"You're not going to kill me," Al said to me as he leaned his forehead against mine.

"Well... not quite," Hayley commented. We pulled apart and looked at her.

"I'm saying there's a chance that she won't kill you," Hayley said. My stomach dropped once more. We're still rolling the dice.

"So I could still end up killing my mate?" I asked with a dejected voice. I looked down at my hands and could basically see the blood on them already.

Sparks shot up my arms as Al grabbed my hands and he told me, "Hey it's not a set thing, and I just knocked you on your ass. So I have hope."

I looked up from our connected hands and looked into his golden eyes. I swallowed as he moved one of his hands and cupped my face.

"Are you really willing to take that chance?" I asked him.

"I've made it very clear that I am," he said.

I shook my head slightly and said, "I'm being serious."

"I am too," he replied his golden eyes seeming like fire from their intensity.

"You're insane," I mumbled.

"How so?" He asked.

"You're willing to give your life up for some girl you just met," I answered as I took his hands off of me and took a step back.

"You know you're not just a girl," he replied with disgust.

"You barely know me and you're willing to gamble with your life," I told him crossing my arms across my chest. I can't let him do that.

"You're my soul mate Zylee!" He argued.

"Zy you know that the mate bond makes you different to him," Aunt Hayley said.

"Yeah your aunt and I were married within two weeks of meeting each other," Jerry added in.

"You guys aren't helping!" I snapped back at them.

"On the contrary! I think they're helping a ton," Al declared. He took a step towards me but I took a step back. I rubbed the sides of my arms as I looked away at a dirt patch in the grass.

"I think we should go," I heard Hayley say. I glanced up at them and nodded in agreement. They stood there for a few more moments, just staring at my mate and me. At last, they left and I could hear twigs breaking underneath their retreating feet.

"Why?" Al asked me making me look up at him in confusion, "why do you not want to be with me?"

"It's not that!" I shouted back.

"Then what is it? We get hope and a chance, and you immediately crushed it," he told me.

"I want to be with you, I swear!" I vowed to him. He started to pace side to side as he clenched his fists.

"But I can't live with myself if I'm the reason you die," I added in a soft quiet voice. His pacing stopped abruptly and he looked at me with a different kind of light in his eyes.

"There's a chance that you won't," he replied.

"But there's still a chance," I said.

"A chance I'm willing to take!" He declared.

I shook my head then said, "But I'm not."

"So, what are we going to do?" He asked me his eyes looking deflated.

"I don't know. Maybe I should go back to White Lake?" I suggested.

"No! No way, you're not leaving me. And it's not safe there," Al argued.

"Well, what else am I supposed to do?" I asked throwing my arms to my side.

"Stay here with me! We'll work something out," he said. He closed the distance between us and took me into his arms. Tingling, warmth, comfort, and every positive emotion I've ever felt flooded into my heart as he held me tightly in his arms.

"Let me go, Al," I ordered him. I'll never be able to leave him if I can feel the mate bond like this. He looked at me with hard eyes then let me go and took a step back.

"I won't let you leave me," he growled.

"And I won't let you die!" I hissed back.

"We can do both," he grumbled as his eyes lit up.

"How?" I asked in an unbelieving tone.

"I can't believe I forgot about this! It's called marking, it's old and not used anymore, but it could be the answer to our problem," Al told me.

"What is it? What does it do?" I asked intrigued.

"It's when we bite each other... right here," he said placing his fingers on the nape of my neck on the right. His fingers on my skin caused me to break out in goosebumps and I took in a sharp breath at the tingling sensation.

"It binds our souls together," he said as he removed his fingers making my body go back to normal.

"Bind our souls together?" I asked as I tried to focus my hazy mind. What does that even mean?

He nodded his head then replied, "You'll be able to feel all my feelings, and if one of us dies... well, the other one dies within 48 hours."

"How is a death pact our solution?" I asked slightly angry. Does he want me to die too?

"It makes it to where the mates are literally unable to harm each other. We'd be physically incapable of doing it," he said as he once again wrapped me in his solid arms and embraced me.

I pulled away and looked into his eyes. "You did it! You figured it out," I said and squeezed him tight.

"It can be risky though. We can't do it unless we love each other or it will kill us both," Al warned me.

"What?" I asked slightly terrified.

"It's binding our souls together. They have to be compatible and willing, or our souls will fight against the marking and our souls will literally tear each other apart," he explained.

"And we'll both die," I muttered.

"Well... yeah," he said. I stepped away from him and started to leave the training grounds.

"Where are you going?" He called and went after me.

"To your house," I answered.

"Our house," he corrected.

"We're going to our house so we can get to know each other and fall in love," I explained farther as I picked up my pace.
