"Keep your elbow up," I corrected Sheryl on her throwing form. She nodded and made the adjustment. She threw at the target and managed to get the knife to stick on one of the outer rings.
She turned to me her brown eyes bright and she gave me a happy smile. "You're getting there," I told her with a half-smile of my own. She started to jump up and down as she squealed in joy.
"Alright go join Lindsay in the laps," I ordered her. She let out a groan of complaint then turned around and ran towards her sister.
"You're good with them," I heard Carter say behind me. I turned around to see the curly blonde man smiling.
"Do you really think so?" I asked with a smile of my own.
"You're a natural leader. They love you," he answered with a nod.
"That's strange. I've always been the person people avoided like the plague," I told him. I started to walk back home and Carter joined me.
"Seriously?" Carter asked me in shock.
I nodded my head then replied, "I didn't have a single friend in White Lake, and I lived there my entire life."
"I'm sorry," he apologized.
I shrugged as I replied, "Eh it's just how it is."
Carter opened his mouth but before any words could escape his mouth a ring tone from a distant phone sounded. Carter closed his mouth and instantly looked worried.
"I didn't know there were any phones here," I muttered.
"That's because there's only one, and only the alphas of every pack have the number. If it's ringing, then it's not a good situation," Carter told me. The ring tone stopped showing that it had been answered due to the short duration of the ringing.
"Where is it?" I asked Carter.
"Follow me," he said and started running. We crisscrossed between trees and jumped over ditches in the ground until we approached the tool shed.
This was the one place that I hadn't been inside yet. It was small and held tools, which I haven't had need of yet. There were no windows and the building itself was not even six feet tall. The red paint was peeling and the stench of rotting wood filled my senses.
"Al?" I called out not wanting to go into the silent and foul-smelling shed.
"I'm in here," he answered. The door opened and my mate stepped across the threshold then closed the door.
"Who was it?" Carter asked.
"Alpha Braxton. I'm sorry Carter," Al said. Carter's eyes filled with tears, and I stared at them not having a single idea of what was going on.
"What did he need?" Carter asked.
"Apparently Vaxon visited and made a graffiti that Braxton wants me to come see personally," Al told him.
"But everyone is okay? Right?" Carter inquired desperately.
"Yes, no one was harmed," Al answered.
Carter took in a deep breath of relief and ran his hands through his curly hair. "Can I go with you? When you go see the Coastal pack?" Carter asked.
Al shook his head sadly and told him, "The only reason no one was harmed was because you were gone and he couldn't smell your scent. I'm sorry, but you can't return there."
"I understand Alpha," Carter said with an emotional voice.
"I don't want you going somewhere that Vaxon has just been alone," I told Al. There's no way he's going there without some backup.
"I was planning on taking you with me," Al admitted to me.
"When will you leave?" Carter asked.
"As soon as possible. You will be in charge while I am gone," Al answered.
"Like usual," Carter grumbled still upset about the news of the Coastal pack.
"I should go tell my aunt and uncle that I will be leaving," I said.
Carter shook his head and spoke with a sad tone, "I'll tell them. I need something to take my mind off of everything." I nodded my head in agreement and Carter quickly turned around and disappeared into the overgrowth of the trees without another word.
"Come on. We should go pack," Al said gaining my attention. He tugged my arms and propelled me towards our house.
"I've never seen Carter so distraught before," I told Al.
"Coastal pack was his pack before he had to be under my protection," Al revealed to me.
"Why did he have to be under your protection?" I asked him.
"Carter was the beta of the Coastal pack. When Vaxon came and demanded that the pack be handed over to him Carter made a compromise. Vaxon wasn't able to tell that the deal was rigged. Carter and his alpha gave Vaxon land that was completely underwater. Since Carter was the one to make the deal he was the one Vaxon blamed," Al told me.
"Carter was a beta?" I asked in shock. Al nodded his head with a sad look in his eyes.
"Coastal pack is supposed to be huge, isn't it?" I asked Al.
"Yes and no. It's stationed in Hollywood so their pack area is huge, but there aren't as many members as you would think," Al said.
"How do they stay out of the spotlight when they're in the movie capital of the world?" I asked as our house came into view.
"They don't. Their pack is insanely rich since many of them star in movies," Al replied.
"Like who?" I asked.
"Honestly there's too many to just name one," Al said then walked into our green house. I followed behind him as he walked straight into our bedroom. He pulled out clothes and a black duffle bag and hastily shoved them inside.
"But like who? Chris Hemsworth?" I asked intrigued.
Al stopped all his movement and glared at me. "Why do you want to know about him in particular?" He asked me in a jealous voice.
"Ohh. Umm... no reason," I mumbled.
He raised his eyebrow and crossed his arms as he examined me. I quickly turned towards my part of the closet and stuffed random clothes into the duffle bag that Al held.
"Well, we should probably get going! LAX is quite a bit away," I rambled.
"We're not done with this Chris Hemsworth discussion," he told me. I went out the door with him close behind me. I should not have mentioned Chris Hemsworth. That was a bad decision.
