"What's going on?" I asked as soon as the door that I had barged through was open. The wooden door had flecks of light brown paint float off once the old rusted door had slammed against the wall. Hayley and Jerry were standing in the middle of their bare living room with only one working light. Jerry was holding a lightbulb in his hand but dropped it at our sudden appearance.
"Where have you been? We've been trying to mind link you for about two hours now!" Aunt Hayley yelled at me once my sudden appearance, as well as those of Carter and Al, was processed in her brain. Everyone disregarded the sharp shards of the broken lightbulb on the floor.
"Why wasn't the mind link working? We've been going out of our minds with worry," Uncle Jerry added in. My face turned slightly red at their words and my eyes met Al's, who also had the same look of discomfort.
"They slept together," I heard Carter answer my relatives. Aunt Hayley gasped as uncle Jerry started muttering words that made no sense to himself.
"Carter!" Al and I hissed at him. The blonde hair man met us with a smile and raised his hands up in mock surrender.
"Well, at least we know why the mind link wasn't working and where you were," Hayley said with her face pink from the unwanted knowledge.
"Yeah," I said through clenched teeth and giving Carter a cold glare. I'm going to hurt him.
"Hold up... what?" Jerry asked. We all turned to look at my uncle not understanding what he was wanting to know.
"What do you mean?" Al inquired of Jerry.
Jerry crosses his arms slightly upset then accused, "You wolves are constantly forgetting that I'm human."
"I haven't forgotten hunter," Carter replied with a hateful growl.
"I'm sorry honey. Once a wolf whose mate is from a different pack is mated to their mate the one with a lower pack status loses their previous mind link and gains their mate's," Hayley answered for her husband.
"Wait, what about the ones from the same pack then?" Jerry asked seeming more confused. Al made a weird muffled noise and we all turned our attention to him. His tan hand was covering his mouth, but from the amusement in his eyes, I could tell he was covering a smile. Did he just laugh?
"Carry on," Al grunted out still covering his lips.
"The mind link doesn't change," I answered for my very human uncle. Al took in a deep breath and finally lowered his hand revealing his straight face.
"Well, how was I supposed to know? Just because I had a normal childhood I'm suddenly the butt of every joke! It's not even a good butt!" Uncle Jerry ranted to us as he threw his arms around.
"Wasn't there a problem with some Tyler dude?" Carter asked trying to change the topic.
"Oh my! How could we forget! Oh, I'm such an awful person!" Hayley cried out putting her hands up so they straddled her face.
"Your dad mind linked us and said that Tyler got hurt in the woods. He's still unconscious so they don't know what happened," Jerry told me.
"What the hell could beat him into unconsciousness?" I asked in shock.
"That's what we're all worried about," Hayley mumbled.
"Didn't you say that your brother was the only person who could beat you in a fight?" Al asked me.
I nodded my head and replied, "Yeah, there would be times."
"And I'm the only other person who has ever beaten you?" Al asked me with his eyes slightly wide in fear.
