"Jessica?" I called out once I got inside my brother and his mate's home. The living room and kitchen were all empty. I heard a faint cry from a far-off bedroom and started to make my way to it with Al in tow.

I got to a door where the crying was coming from and knocked. "Jessica? Are you in there? It's Zylee," I called out.

The crying noise stopped then footsteps led to the door. The white door creaked open and revealed the tear-streaked face of my brother's mate. I gasped at her disheveled appearance and quickly wrapped my arms around her.

"What's wrong?" Al asked his golden eyes scanning the room. Jessica started to sob, her tears soaking into my black shirt.

I pulled her away and looked into her brown eyes that were laced with red. "Tyler. He's not going back to normal," she cried.

"What do you mean?" I asked her.

"He was starting to act differently after he woke up, but now he knows what happened and... I don't even recognize him anymore. Our connection... the mate bond. It's gone," she admitted to us with tear-filled eyes.

"What? How is that possible?" I questioned.

"I don't know!" She sobbed.

I turned my head towards Al and asked, "Do you have any idea?"

"Sadly yes. You and your brother aren't the first ones to be a hybrid of a hunter and a werewolf. The few cases that happened before ended rather badly," Al admitted but paused as he looked at Jessica.

'Maybe I should tell you in private? Without her here,' Al mind linked me.

"Well?" Jessica asked. Al looked back at her with sad eyes.

"Please! I have to know," she begged him.

'She deserves to know whatever it is,' I mind-linked Al. He gave me a nod then turned to face Jessica.

"When Tyler got his memory back, did he happen to remember killing a werewolf?" Al asked her.

"Yes," She replied with a croaky voice.

"I'm so sorry Jessica. His wolf and his hunter gene are at war right now," Al told her.

"What do you mean?" I asked him.

"When a hybrid kills a werewolf their instincts start to contradict each other. It makes them go insane," Al informed us.

"How do we fix it?" Jessica asked desperately.

"We can't," Al admitted.

"Then what did you do with the ones that this happened to before?" Jessica asked angrily.

Al went silent and just looked into her brown eyes. "Well?" She asked again. He still didn't answer. "Please. Don't say," she covered her mouth and started to cry again.

"I'm sorry. They were too dangerous to just leave," Al said.

"Are you going to kill my mate?" Jessica sobbed.

"Not if I don't have to," Al replied.

"Why didn't you tell me about this before?" I asked him. This could've been me.

"I wasn't sure if it would apply to you two since your father isn't just a werewolf, he's an alpha," Al answered.

"Al you should've told me! Or at least Hayley and Jerry! What about my cousins? This could've been any one of us!" I yelled at him.

"I'm sorry! Believe it or not, I can't remember everything that has happened in my life. There's too much information to try and store, and sometimes, times like this, where it isn't remembered till it's too late," he defended himself.
