Montgomery Arceus Desmarais

She had a ruptured aneurysm so it took me hours before I finished the surgery. I immediately headed here to monitor her myself. So far, so good.

"We got this, Dr. Desmarais. You can go now. We know you're tired." the nurse said. I nodded and gave her the patient's chart.

I still have half an hour to prepare for my date with Saoirse. I run towards the elevator just in time before it closes.

Today is a special day. I am gonna propose to her. Not that I don't want to marry her, I just want to make sure that I already fixed my problems before asking her to marry me. She's the only one I wanted to be with for a lifetime.

Throughout my residency I've witnessed a lot of things inside this room. Even if I mention it one by one, I'm gonna run out of time. It's a long story that will most probably consist of Yohan's escapades.

I brought out the heirloom ring my mother gave me. It's a sapphire ring filled with diamond accents sorrounding the band of it. She advised me to give this ring to the woman that I am sure of marrying, no matter what the circumstances are. And that is Saoirse. She has always been the woman I wanted to marry.

She was panting like she just run a marathon.

"Hectic work in the E.R.?" tanong ko.

Zamora is standing just beside me, and her almost jumping to my simple question is suspicious. I started to think about the patients I handled with her if they have something to do with her being thrown off. Our last critical patient with a frontal lobe tumor was discharged two weeks ago. They should've paged me if something's wrong, but that's not the issue. Seems like she's having a hard time.

"Is this about your father again?" this time, I faced her. Hindi siya makatingin sa akin. She's only looking at the doors as if she's silently praying for it to open sooner.

She shook her head. "No, Sir..."

"Then what is it? Come on, tell me. I can help."

Hindi siya nagsalita. I studied her. I know she's getting awkward and intense because I'm looking at her but the last time she was like this, it was because of her father. My eyes went down to her arms to see if she has any bruises or scars. Tinago niya iyon sa kaniyang likuran. Hindi ako makapaniwalang tumingin sa kaniya.

"Zamora---"

"What?"

"Dude, anong ginagawa mo rito? Hindi mo ba narinig ang balita?"
