"What happened? What is it?"

Chyler turned to face Saoirse and then back to me. I'm starting to lose patience.

"You said to page you once there's an update on Miss Mandeville's situation. Her motor response is improving. She's withdrawing to pain."

I took a deep breath as I looked over the ceiling. I've been feeling heavy for weeks, and it feels like someone got rid of it. I haven't slept enough because of my responsibilities and watching Saoirse while her family isn't present. But it's okay since I also want to be there for her when things has improved.

"Thank God."

"It's a miracle. I wouldn't even think that this would be possible considering that she's in a vegetative state a month ago. You can clearly see that she's fighting."

"She really is." sabi ko habang tinatanaw si Saoirse mula sa pinto. I'm hesitant to hold her because I'm afraid that I'll crush her. I don't think I would be able to control myself because I really miss her and her banters every minute. 2 months seems like 20 years when I haven't even heard her voice for that long.

Hindi ako relihiyosong tao pero araw-araw kong pinagdadasal ang kalagayan ni Saoirse. Every chance I get, I find myself sitting in a corner and praying. I am that optimistic. Because I have a gut feeling that a miracle is about to happen. As long as it happens, I can wait.

After several months, her body began to heal. She has only been awake for two days and is still unaware of her surroundings. In order to prevent her from feeling overwhelmed when she regains consciousness, we moved her to a private room. I engage her in conversation to keep her occupied. Her room is where I usually hang out during break time. I watch her favorite movies with her that I don't even enjoy, I sing when I feel like it, I read her books, and I show her some photographs that hold special meaning for her. Occasionally, I assist the nurses in giving her a bath and feeding her. Although it's not my job, I still want to be of service.

"Dude, don't be offended, but have you look at yourself in the mirror lately?"

Yohan began to irritate me with that question, so I raised my eyebrows at him. "What's wrong with my appearance?"

"I'm just saying... You may want to change it since it's important to be presentable when we're seeing our patients. Noong nakaraan, hindi matigil sa kakaiyak 'yung bata sa ER nung makita ka. Akala yata noodles-turned-doctor ka."

"Wala ka na bang ibang mabwisit kaya dito ka nanggugulo?"

Natawa siya. Sinilip niya si Sheena bago binalik ang tingin sa akin. "Just think about Saoirse's reaction once she regain consciousness. Baka matakot sa'yo."

Binato ko siya ng balat ng saging. Mas lalo siyang humagalpak katatawa. Pinulot niya iyon at tinapon sa basurahan bago nagpaalam na babalik na siya sa opisina niya. I just nodded. I caressed Sheena's hand and kissed it before I step out of her room.

"I'll go back after my rounds."

I was about to close the door when suddenly, I heard a low groan inside. Mabilis akong bumaling sa loob at nakitang nakatingin sa akin si Saoirse. My heart was racing in my chest, but I still ran towards her. I took out my penlight and shone on her eyes. Her pupils constricted! She's conscious now! She's awake, thank God!

I called Saoirse's medical team using the call bell, but I can't wait for them to get here so I can speak with her. Though I was ignoring it, I could feel my tears welling up. Lumapit ako sa kaniya at ngumiti.
