Levi's POV

Getting paid to be a friend? Tch. Pathetic. That's not a real job.

I thought to myself as I worked through another stack of papers. I noticed that I started getting tired around midnight. When (Y/N) was still here, midnight was around the time I closed up. Unfortunately, I still had a couple more stacks to go through. I think I got used to resting around this time.

Tch. It's fine. I've done this for years. It's just getting back into the habit.

I start up another round of tea for the night. Tomorrow we're getting the new recruits. Erwin said that I would have to train them once in a while.

My eyes grew heavy as I started to doze during my work.

Maybe if I closed my eyes for a second...

...

I shot up from my chair in panic. Looking out the window, the sky was starting to get brighter.

Shit. Shit. I didn't even finish my paperwork.

I still had those two stacks left and they were due today. I was gonna have to tell Erwin.

...

"So, you're saying you didn't get it done?"

"Yeah, I fell asleep."

"Interesting."

He did a good job hiding it, but I could tell he tucked in a smile. I knew what he was thinking, but I wasn't going to admit to it.

"Did you get enough sleep at least... captain?"

His stare pierced through me. I probably looked slightly disheveled, eyes red. I couldn't deny the obvious.

"Tch. No."

"Interesting. Well, (Y/N) has already taken up a new position so.."

"I wasn't intending for her to come back. I'm fine. I just had a slip up."

"Mhmm. Sure. As long as you'll be ready to train the new recruits later."

"Yeah."

I replied annoyed. I went to my room to freshen up and started some tea to calm me down.

It was just one night. I won't let it happen again.

Later that day...

"Alright, give me 50 laps. Real training starts tomorrow."

When I finished giving a brief overview, I could tell some of the trainees were either dozing off of scared out of their mind.

Tch. This was gonna require a lot of patience I don't have. I still have to finish the paperwork from last night and the new ones for tomorrow morning.

These tasks started to give me a lot of stress.

Paperwork and brats? Great.

On my way to my office, (Y/N) passed by giving me the same cold stare. I brushed it off like normal.

...

During dinner I couldn't help but scowl at the sight before me. (Y/N) was with the new recruits, Jaeger's group. They were goofing around like idiots.

"What are you staring at Levi?"

Hanji teased me. I looked at her annoyed and shook my head. She didn't seem to give up, as she moved her face closer. Not a second later she recoiled in disgust.

"Levi, you look horrible. Are you sick or something?"

"I'm fine."

After a couple moments of silence, she started speaking again.

"Wow... (Y/N) did make a difference in your workload..."

"Tch. It's the stress the brats are giving me."

"Aw, c'mon they just got here. You're doing a great job scaring them by the way. I'm sure they despise you already."

"I don't care. They need to learn the harsh realties of the world."

"And (Y/N) is there to remind them to be human and have fun. You guys are polar opposites."

Whatever.

I finished the rest of my food and headed to my office to work another sleepless night.
