Sharvee's POV
I looked at my friends. 'You have to remove your shoes.' I said. 'Why though?' Chen asked. 'Well, um, we consider it unholy to wear shoes in a temple,' I said. 'It makes sense if you think about it,' He said. 'It does, yeah,' I replied.
Bringing all my friends to India was such a great idea. There was Daisy, Chen, Alex and Saksham. We came here from Hogwarts, and after a quick nap and lunch, we were here; to the local temple near my home. We were gonna stay here for about a week and travel a bit. Then possibly just go wherever we wanted to next.
'Okay so, after this, where do we go?' Alex asked, holding her camera. I smiled. 'I was thinking that we could spend this night just seeing temples; there are so many,' Saksham nodded earnestly. 'I like that! I honestly don't see a lot of temples nowadays, what with us being at Hogwarts...and I'd also like to explore your hometown,' he said. We all nodded in approval. But Daisy looked a little down.
Daisy groaned. 'Why?' I looked at her sternly. 'Daisy, I know you don't really believe in religion stuff but the others are interested. And its been a while since I came here, all of this brings a flood of memories.' I said, spreading my arms and looking around the area. 'This was a regular place to go for me when I was a kid, I miss this place. Also,' I said while turning to Daisy, 'The smell inside is literally intoxicating. You'll cry once we're outside,' she still wasn't convinced, but she said, 'Fine. Let's go,'
I grinned at her. 'We'll then go to the best restaurant and icecream place I know. Actually there's two of the icecream places, so I hope you have a large appetite,'
We all hastily removed our shoes and climbed the stairs to the temple, which was constructed out of white marble. It was pleasantly cool to touch. I touched the last step with my hand before getting inside. This place was honestly so awesome. I felt a little guilty that I hadn't come here often when I started Hogwarts though.
I stepped inside and there it was, the smell which I was addicted to. I can't really describe it, but it smells like the whole of India put together. People call it Heena attar, I think. And just like I'd anticipated, everyone in my friends circle was looking like they were high on the smell. That shit is relatable on another level. You literally feel like making this place your home just because of the fucking smell.
'Okay I don't wanna leave,' said Alex. I smiled. 'Honey, you can stay here for however long you want. But we have to eat though,' she frowned. 'Well, I can come here in the morning I guess, its not that long from your home,' I nodded. 'Sure! So we'll stay here for 15-20 minutes and then go because we have other temples to go to too, mkay?' She smiled and nodded.
We all sat down on floor. 'Okay so this place here is dedicated to an actual person who existed. The guy was called Gajanan Maharaj. ''Maharaj", as in, he was a guru who looked after people and preached too. And he was so pure and kind and amazing that people thought that he was the reincarnation of Datta, a god. Which he is still believed to be, I guess. And he all looked after them and one day, he just decided that he'd had enough of everything so he committed what was basically called a samadhi, in which a person goes into a closed space and just never comes back. That's kinda dark, oof. So anyways, people built this in honour of him, and he lived kinda near to the edge of this state, Maharashtra. Pretty weird and dark, huh?' I said, looking around.
'Yep. Its good that the temple wasn't as depressing as the story though,' Saksham said. 'Also, what are the other temples dedicated to?' He asked. I looked at Daisy and we both grinned. 'Someone Punekars are obsessed with,' we said in unison. Our grins were so infectious that the others started to grin too.
I looked at the time. 'Okay so we'll take about five minutes to go upstairs. You guys want to?' I asked. Chen nodded. 'Might as well see the entire thing,' I nodded back.
So we got up and then we climbed up the stairs to the top of the temple, which were located on right exterior side of the structure. There were two of them, one to ascend, and one to descend. The floor above was made out of reddish brown marble and the structure itself was hexagonal in shape. There was some space left around so that people could circle it, as most worshippers do.
I didn't go outside but just hastily started to go around the room, touching the cold marble and wanting to relive my childhood while my friends went inside. Thump. I was so indulged in this that I did not see who I was bumping into. The future me was gonna really hate me for this. I looked up and froze in surprise.
'I uh-' I was seriously trying to get words out of my mouth when the figure in front of me crossed their arms in indignation.
'You know that you have to keep in touch, right?' I stammered and finally threw up my hands in defeat. 'I know, Miss Maya, I know! But I- uh kinda am not allowed phones to the new sc- college I go to,' I explained.
She raised an eyebrow. 'Are you really telling me that the most rebellious kid in the school-'
'You literally helped me with half the stuff I did!' I interrupted. She rolled her eyes. 'I literally just kept watch! And it was also because the classroom was out of chalks,'I looked at her in defeat again. 'Fine. But its just that I- um, its kinda...hard to explain? Can we just, I don't know, meet somewhere in a few days and I'll explain all the shit I'm going through,'
Shiiit. I was refraining from coming here just because of this. This teacher is literally everywhere I don't wanna find her. I knew she would be here just so the universe could taunt me. I hate myself for coming here just because I love this place. I let out an internal scream. How in the name of satan's bunny slippers am I gonna explain my teacher/bestfriend that I go to a fucking magical school?!
I think I should've gone out with her for a coffee or something a couple years ago? I still went to school though. Indian school terms were at a different time but I could fit in only a few months each time and to be honest, it was kind of exhausting. Thank goodness I didn't have to do it for the past two years. Anyways, back to present.
'Sure. I'm free this weekend. And if I-'
Before we continue though, have I told you how much I love my friends? I don't think so. But that's when they interrupted me while I was talking to Miss Maya and I almost shouted it out to them. I felt Alex lunge for me and hug me.'Shovel! Why didn't you come inside with us? You said you'd join us in a min-' she looked at Miss Maya. Saksham was the first one to unfreeze, the others, they had no luck since Miss Maya looked like she she was gonna go into a murderous rage. 'Umm, Sharvee? Who's this lovely lady here?' He said cautiously. I looked back at him. 'Oh. Its just my teacher from uh, my school here. You know, the one I go to before and after Hogwarts? Yeah, that one.' I said.
Miss Maya looked at my friends. 'Are you the friends she talks about? Lovely to meet you. Maybe you'd just help her sneak in phones into your school?' Saksham frowned at that. 'How will electri-' before he could finish the sentence, I cut him off. 'I know, I know, Saksham! But she insisted. I'll explain it to her-' I looked back at the teacher standing before us. '-in detail. But later. We have places to go, right?' My friends nodded.
I looked at them in satisfaction. 'Okay but you guys go on. I'm gonna have a word. Till then, collect all the shoes and stuff and wait for me, hmm?' And with that they were gone.
I looked back at Miss Maya.
'At Yevle's?'
'Yup.'
We hugged and then, she was gone.I walked back quickly to my friends. 'Ready to go to another temple?' They all smiled and nodded. I shot a grateful look to Daisy and an unspoken understanding passed between us.
I quickly put on my shoes and yelled, 'Race you to the car!' And we all laughed and ran to the vehicle parked on the opposite side of the road.
Hello there, reader. I see you have finished the story. Great! So now you can help me sort out a dilemma of mine. Do I write the part where me and Miss Maya meet up? Idfk and its irritating.
Also also also also. Do I do a part two?
Thanks. Now, thanks for 2k reads and the support and we gonna see you, next time!
Love,
