Just Common

This will be brief. I thought maybe some information would be needed on Common's World.

I think you've noticed Common lives in a world closely resembling the United States late 1860-1870s. With out the technology steam power, Telegraph. The only power they use is water or wind. The Laws are strict, no form of National Government other than the Law enforced by the Rangers.

How this all came about, was briefly explained in the opening story. Common has a more in-depth explanation in the Book of Common. The upcoming chapters will have more on what happened, to get our World to go backwards as Common puts it.

Common isn't certain how they became Separate but United. He references at one point it's been 20 years, but doesn't state how old he was. We really don't know how old Common is, when he gets around to telling his stories. We know he is at the Station House, near Appomattox Virginia. We don't know if the 20 years is from that time at the Station or the stories time.

Shield Warriors, Common says Maggie was a Shield Warrior, his second real love. What is a Shield Warrior, they are made up of women swore to protect the surrounding towns cities and villages.

Trained from the young age of about 8 years to fight. Much like the women of Amazon. They protect the towns while the men are away in battle. This is a Matriarchal heritage from Mother
to daughter older, than the Rangers.

Keepers, the ones that keep the history, this also is passed down father to son or daughter or Mother to son or daughter. How many Keepers that isn't known. With the Trackers killing them, those numbers could be low.

What happened? We know, No One took over, how long that period of time was, we don't know. We know other countries had Artificial Intelligence.
We know they had Wars probably a few thermal nuclear wars. The world tried to shake us off like a wet dog shaking the water off. This could be volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, massive storms even sickness.

What Common knows is based off those Keepers and oral legends. Well that I think is enough information. I hope that helps some, now back to Common.
