"This is ridiculous." Jungkook huffed out a puff of frustrated air, placing his pistol into its leather holster, and turned to Namjoon and Hoseok. "We're not going to find anywhere at this rate. Not before nightfall."
"We just have to keep looking," Namjoon said continuing to walk, ahead of the other two, down the dusty open road lined by trees, that cast shadows over the three men.
The group had run out of gas after driving all night. All of them were grieving for their old base, even more so when they found it increasingly harder to find somewhere else to stay.
Jimin, Yoongi, Taehyung, and Seokjin were waiting by the road, with the cars and all the supplies, anticipating the other three to come back with good news. They had gone to see if there was anywhere they could all settle for the night. It was way too cold to spend the night in the cars with no gas, it was too dangerous as well considering the dead became more active after dark.
The three boys had been walking for about an hour and had come across nothing but trees and corpses. They were starting to lose hope and were thinking about turning back but Namjoon had a feeling in his gut that they just needed to keep going for a little bit longer.
"We've been walking forever!" Hoseok complained, keeping his eyes trained on the trees surrounding them, feeling unsure about the safety of the road. "My feet feel like they are about to fall off and I don't even know what way it is back to the cars anymore."
"It's a good job we have some sense of direction, then." Jungkook sighed, sounding notably tired, gesturing to him and the leader.
Hoseok scoffed at his youngest brother's comment and shook his head before turning his attention to Namjoon.
"Seriously, Namjoonah. It's freezing, the sun is setting." He said, his voice sounding whiney and childish. "We should turn back. We can survive in the cars for one night-"
"I am not putting you all at risk just because I got chilly." Namjoon cut him off, his voice harsher than he intended. He took his tone into account and shot Hoseok an apologetic smile.
Hoseok just shrugged it off and sighed deeply. He understood why Namjoon wanted to find somewhere, and he also understood his frustration, but he couldn't help but think he was being too stubborn.
"It is really quite cold, hyung." Jungkook backed Hoseok up on his previous comment, pulling his jacket tighter around him. Namjoon shook his head, wrapping his hands tightly around his shotgun. "I think we should turn back."
Namjoon couldn't help but feel bad for the others. He had made them walk for miles just to find zilch. The fact that even Jungkook, strong, hard-headed Jungkook, was trying to convince him that he should give up for the day made him feel even worse.
Was he pushing them too hard?
Was he being too harsh of a leader?
He gritted his teeth and sucked the icy air into his lungs. With his hands still on his gun, Namjoon gave in.
"Fine..." He sighed, closing his eyes tight. "Fine, let's head back."
He turned and started to walk back in the direction they came from but quickly stopped in his tracks.
"For Christ's sake." Jungkook cursed under his breath, seeing what made Namjoon stall.
At least fifteen dead ones were heading in their direction. This would have freaked the men out a month ago but after mastering supply runs, the three were used to taking the monsters down. Even Hoseok, who used to be scared of everything, saw them as more of an inconvenience than a threat, now.
