Fourteen men lined up, under the scorching sun, standing for hours on end while listening to Namjoon and Minho teach them how to shoot.
There was no way they were going to meet the standard of the army Taemin was building, but a little training was better than none.
"Come on, guys!" Namjoon shouted, growing frustrated with just how bad a shot these men were. He didn't know how he became a gun instructor, not when he was meant to be in his studio making new music, but he didn't take the title lightly. This was a matter of life or death, for his family, so if making sure people could hit a target was what it was going to take, then so be it. "You're just wasting bullets, now! Let's get a grip!"
"Namjoonssi?" Jennie called from behind the man, jogging up to the training area Dawon had set up around the back of the hospital. "I would like to help."
"Thank you, Jennie," Namjoon sighed, taking his eyes off of his maknae, who was shooting recklessly to impress Chan and Hyunjin stood next to him. "But there is no need. You don't have to."
"I've told you before, I'm a good shot," Jennie protested after hearing this for the thousandth time. She wanted to help defend their home and her new friends, and she wasn't enjoying the underlying sexism.
"Namjoon," Minho spoke up, looking over to the leader and the girl. "Just give the girl a gun. If she says she can shoot, she can shoot."
"It just doesn't seem fair," Namjoon shook his head, reluctantly. "She shouldn't have to fight for us. It's too dangerous, she's just a young girl."
"Oh, come on," Jennie sighed, rolling her eyes. "I'm most likely a better shot than all of you. Just hand over a gun and stop with this women should stay inside bullshit. I'm more of a man than most of the guys stood out here."
Namjoon just shook his head again though, he handed her a spare pistol despite feeling hesitant still.
"This one doesn't have much kick," He explained, quickly demonstrating how to use the weapon before she snatched it away from him. "Shouldn't be too difficult. Go stand next to Tae and he'll..."
"Yeah, yeah, yeah," The girl mocked, admiring the firearm before skipping away. "Taehyung's as helpful as a gun without a trigger, anyway."
"And you want to be that trigger," Namjoon muttered under his breath, scoffing as he watched the girl take position next to Taehyung and started aiming immediately. He turned back to the maknae, who had started holding his gun sideways, causing him to groan aloud at his stupidity. "Jungkook, stop fucking showing off and act like an adult!"
The group had no idea when Taemin would hit, when he was planning on actually attacking, so they knew they had to be ready for it at any moment. They hadn't heard from Felix after he filled them in and warned them, which was unsettling but they didn't try to radio back. They didn't want to risk anything by getting him caught. They just forced themselves to believe he was smart enough to keep himself safe until they could work out a way to get him home safely.
"You know, he's a natural with a gun," Minho commented as he turned back, watching with Yoongi as Jimin hit his target across the far end of the car park, with perfect precision, each time.
"Don't tell him that," Yoongi shook his head, clicking his tongue. He didn't want his husband out in the relentless sun, training for hours but after some convincing from Namjoon, he decided it was best for him to know how to defend himself. "He'll never touch one again... He's not a violent man."
"There's nothing violent about defending yourself, Yoongissi," Minho reminded the man, though Yoongi wasn't the one who needed reminding.
"I know that," The man sighed, brushing his sweaty hair out of his face, squinting from the sun to keep an eye on Jimin. "But this is the guy who took an entire month before realising killing the dead wasn't murder..."
