I push Ben hard out of the way and stare at Marcus. His black eyes twinkle and I can see my reflection in them. Small, pitiful, and bloody.
"Leave him alone it was an accident!" I snap and Ben cowers behind me clinging to my leg.
Mom gently walks up behind Marcus. Ben had been walking with water in his hands and tripped over Marcus's extended leg causing the glass to shatter and water spill everywhere.
"Sweetheart just ignore them" she says softly and strokes his shoulder. Marcus's hair was awry his muscles pulsing and tensing his eyes wild and face formed into a snarl.
"Shut up!" he barks. He turns around and swings the back of his hand with enough power to make my mother shriek and send her flying.
He turns to face us and his hands are curled into fists.
"You will learn!" he shouts and I push Ben down the hallway. I hear the slicing sound of his belt when it whips out of the loops on his belts and cuts through the air. I run with Ben down the hallway. But before I can there's the horrid sound of the belt and it wraps around my ankle. I hit the floor with an aching bang and everything I see has big black spots and is as blurry as the view out the window when its raining. I plaster my hands to the ground and pull myself further. I try and rise to my knees when I hear stomping. It reminded me of when I used to lock my bedroom door and hide in the closet. It always happened when he brought his belt out.
The metal buckle of his belt cuts the air and connects with my back with enough force to move a mountain. It stings like a burning pain coursing through your veins. Like someone is taking fire and slicing at your back with it. A beautiful thought really but an awful pain. I attempt to crawl away again but it doesn't work. The belt comes down again and I bite my lip. Then it comes down again, and again, and again. Eventually I let the tears fall and I wonder when it'll be all over.
