The penthouse was the same as I remember. If you look down not to far you can see Central park. If you got another part of the house you can see Rockerfeller Center and the tree. Then my favorite part was that you could see the empire state building. When I was younger I used to like looking at the twin towers. No its not there. The entire apartment is practically made of glass the walls long and high and the big sliding doors that lead to the terrace. I stood there for hours. I looked through the glass and I could faintly see my reflection. In the distance miles away the morning sun slowly began to rise. Today's Christmas Eve and Riley is here with me when he should be home. I hate myself. I shouldn't have dragged him out here into this mess. If only i had hung up the phone he might be warm in his bed. I don't care where I would have been. All I cared about was the fact that he was somewhere he shouldn't have been. I had told the truth the whole truth and nothing but. The expression is over used but I didn't care. it described exactly what I did. Now he was pacing back and forth in the living room biting his nails. If I could snap my fingers and he'd be home and forget tonight I would but I can't. Finally I let out a deep breath and turn to face him. He looks at me then down and continues to pace. I step down the stairs and walk to him.
"Would you stop doing that" I say and stop in front of him. He continues to pace.
"Tell me what would you be doing right now?" he asks. I look at him. Ok I know with everything going on I shouldn't be thinking about this but I just can't help. He looks SO FREAKING CUTE WHEN HE'S WORRIED! There I said it and I'm not going to say it again.
"You shouldn't have come Riley" I say and at that he stops dead in his tracks.
"I-" he says then looks away. He opens his mouth at an attempt to speak but ti doesn't work. He rubs his jaw with the other hand on his hip. He looks at me and slightly shakes his head.
"What?" I ask and he shuts his eyes. "What!" I demand.
"Tess" he says and his hand falls to his side. He walks over to me with no hesitation and I stand with feet planted to the ground. He takes my face in his hands and I shut my eyes expecting for his mouth to touch mine as I have been dying for it happen.
It doesn't happen.
Instead I just hear him breathe and I open my eyes. His hands slide down my face my neck until he's holding my shoulders.
"You're so difficult Tess you know that? And so selfless in brave how could you ask such a ridiculous question?" he says.
"Well in all fairness I never quite got why you wanted to help me even after my darkest secret was revealed. Normal guys would have bounced" I say with a chuckle. He lets me go.
"I thought it was obvious" he says.
