The smile stretched across my face is so wide it hurts as I rush down the hallway of Ethan and Kelly's house. Ethan was one of my very few friends. He was my best ever since kindergarten. He and Patty. He want to an all boys school though and we parted for high school. Kelly was his younger sister she was in Ben's class. I slam my books on the kitchen table and look at Ethan. He laughs a little.
"I find it impossible for you to be this happy" he says.
"I just got walked home by St.Ignatius Private High School's golden child" I say.
His kitchen was a sunshine yellow with beautiful marble counter tops and light wooden cabinets. The handles were a beautifully curved brown iron handle and the sink was huge with an antique looking faucet and handles. The floors were marble and there were doors leading to the terrace and about an acre of land after that.
His pale blue eyes widen while his bronze hair shimmers in the sunlight.
"Riley Grey walked you home from school?" he asks and I nod. He sits down with a humorous attitude and looks at me with his hand under his chin. "Oh-ho I have to hear this" he says in a very deep, almost comical, chuckle.
I sit down and look at him. "I was walking and I bumped into him" I say and tell him the story of my flying test and Golden Boy carrying my books.
At then end he nods like a therapist.
"I see" he says and puts on his mother's reading glasses. "So there were no other hallucinations about pretty boys? How about flying boys with roses I hear those are common" he says.
I smack him in the shoulder with my textbook and laugh.
"Stop that!" I snap and he laughs too.
It falls silent. His face falls serious, hardens almost to the form of a statue. Ethan leans over the table with eyes now dark and speaks.
"So what happened this time?" he whispers even though its just the two of us.
I sigh and reach for my bag.
"He tried to hit me so I knocked him out. Then he hit mom and left" I say, shrug "He won't be back for weeks now and she is drunk"
He shakes his head "I'm sorry" he says.
I shrug "Whatever I just can't wait until I graduate high school. I am going to get out of that hell-o! Guys!" I say as the kids tush into the kitchen.
Ethan laughs because he knew what I was going to say. I do say it all the time after all.
Ben comes over to me and smiles "We were in the yard" he says. I look down at his dirtied shirt and laugh.
"I can see that" I say."Go clean up alright? You know which drawer is yours in the guest room and Kelly help him get those clothes into the washing machine" I say.
"Ok!" Kelly says grabbing Ben's hand and disappearing down the hallway.
I shake my head and take out my math. Ethan's parents were neurosurgeons and were never home. They loved Ben and me though and never minded when we stood over. As they used to call us their second pair of kids.
"Did he hit Ben this time?" Ethan asked quietly. I shake my head.
"No I took him into the room and made sure he locked the door" Ethan nods and sighs.
"I hope he doesn't come back this time" Ethan says. I reach for my folder and laptop. I nod.
"Me too" I say and think of my writing assignment
