sunday, 5:12pm

felix stared into the luring waves below him, oh how bad he wants to just dive in, never to be seen again.

he exhaled, silently climbing over the railing. this is it, he thought.

"finally at peace-" he mumbled, just about to let go when he heard a voice from behind him.

"aye! what're you doing?! you tryna get yourself killed?" the unknown voice yelled.

felix turned his head, to see a boy that looked around his age standing a couple feet away.

the boy walked over and stood beside him, on the other side of the railing.

felix ignored him, looking back down at the rushing waters with hesitation.

"so what's up stranger? you look like you need some saving." the stranger asked, tilting his head as he pulled a pack of cigarettes out from his pocket.

"go away, i don't need saving." felix mumbled, hearing the boy light a cigarette.

"no, let's hang out!" the boy cheerfully suggested.

"n-no! i don't wanna.. h-hang out with you...." felix stuttered out, trying to keep his focus on the body of water before him.

"oh, c'mon! who doesn't wanna hang out with me?" the stranger asked, felix looking at him. "c'mon, get your ass over the rails and lets go for a walk." he smiled sweetly, offering his hand out.

for some reason, felix agreed and took the strangers hand, climbing back over the railing.

the stranger began walking away, felix trying his best to keep up with him.

"so, stranger... why were you standing over the railing?" he asked, raising an eyebrow curiously.

"i-isn't it obvious?" felix mumbled sadly, holding his arm.

"no way! i know this place is trash, but how bad can it be to make you wanna leave? especially in that way." the stranger spoke, as he took another drag from his cigarette.

"i-it's not th-this place.. it-... it's me." felix whispered, keeping his head down.

"what about you? i dunno, but you seem pretty cool to me." the stranger shrugged, exhaling the smoke in his lungs.

"trust me... i'm not." felix said, making the stranger shake his head.

"no! you're so cool, i bet you have hundreds of friends." the stranger smiled.

felix chuckled softly, "no, i actually... i d-don't have f-friends.." he muttered, the stranger scoffing in disbelief.

"really? you're joking." he asked, felix shaking his head.

the stranger circled around him, "just look at you! you're so cool, the coolest ever." the stranger enthusiastically smiled, throwing his finished cigarette on the ground.

"felix.." he mumbled, the stranger responding with a quiet "huh?"

"m-my name... it's felix." felix smiled shyly, holding his hand out to the stranger.

the stranger warmly smiled, taking the others hand, "han jisung."

"y'know, it's really hard to believe someone like you has no friends." jisung said, staring at the younger.

"i-is that a.. b-bad thing?" felix hesitantly asked, "no, it's because i get to be your best friend." jisung smiled.

"that is... if you let me?"

felix looked down, "i've.... never had a best friend before.." he whispered.

"well, would you allow me to be the first?" jisung gently asked, patiently waiting for an answer before felix nodded his head with a shy smile.

"great. let's go on an adventure, best friend."

--

"that was fun, right?" jisung asked, as they walked around the almost empty streets of their small town.

"yeah, it was.." felix said, with a small smile.

felix pulled out his phone from his pocket, checking the time and noticing the multiple missed calls from both his parents.

he quickly called his mom back, his mother picking up in an instant.

"felix! oh my god, where are you?! we were so worried, you never go out for this long." she rambled.

"mom, i'm okay. i just.." felix looked at jisung, who was staring at him.

"i went for a walk." he said, keeping eye contact.

"a walk? to where? you usually stay inside." she asked, felix biting his lip.

"j-just... downtown. i'll be home soon, okay?" felix said, muttering a "bye" and hanging up.

"why'd you lie?" jisung skeptically asked.

"i don't want.. to worry her. she's busy and has things t-to do, and j-just because i'm sad... doesn't mean she should have to take care of me." felix muttered out sadly.

"c'mon, you're her child. of course she's gonna worry about you." jisung said, gently pushing the boys shoulder.

he put his arms around felix's shoulders, "listen. i'm gonna help you, i dunno how but i am. i'm going to make sure you are never sad." he smiled, felix smiling back.

"well, sadness is apart of our daily lives so i don't think-"

"hush hush, lix." jisung smiled.

"lix..?" felix asked, tilting his head.

"yes! friends have nicknames for each other, right?" the older asked.

felix thought for a second, "okay, sung." he smirked.

"nice! i like it." jisung said, "i gotta get home though.." felix sighed.

"i'll walk you home, 'cause that's what best friends do." the older said, leading the younger to a random direction before he stopped abruptly.

"where do you live?"

"this way." felix shook his head and walked the other way, jisung following closely behind.

eventually they made it, felix stopping in front of his house, holding jisung's hand.

"well, this is it." felix said, looking at the house.

jisung suddenly reached into felix's sweater, grabbing his phone. he grabbed felix's hand, unlocking his phone with touch id.

felix watched as jisung typed on his phone and suddenly took a selfie.

jisung handed his phone back and also gave him his phone, "here, put you number in."

felix grabbed the phone and started typing in his number, before handing it back.

"no photo? c'mon, that's boring." jisung said, grabbing the youngers phone and looking through his photos.

"here's a good one." he mumbled, sending the photo to himself and then setting it as the contact photo.

"now go inside." jisung said, felix nodding and walking up the stairs, stopping and turning around.

"thank you." he said, giving the older a small smile before he walked into the house.
