Once I made it to the location of the Chosen, I turned my car off and hopped out of the clunker, making my way up the hill. There was no Chosen here yet so I sat on a log nearby, waiting patiently. A few minutes went by and three Chosen walked up to me.
"Ethan's message said you would come. Many have tried to light the Flame of Eden, and all have failed. There are many Highwaymen surrounding the flame and they kill without pity. Our best option against their numbers and firepower is to take them out with cunning and stealth. We've brought you a weapon suitable for our most holy task. Please consider using it. My fellow Chosen will help you. Now follow me." One of the Chosen explained.
I nodded my head, "I agree. Let's go." I grabbed the bow on the rock along with some arrows.
"Yes. This is the sort of weapon to use for this sacred task." He replied as I climbed up the mountainside, loaded bow in hand.
About ten minutes passed by and I easily succeeded in securing the statue area while the Chosen just watched from afar.
The leader then walked up to me, patting me on the back. "We've brought you as far as we can. You must descend into the cavern and light the flame alone. They've flooded the chamber and sealed the pipes. Those pipes contain the Bliss that feeds the sacred flame. Drain the water, then destroy the pipes to release the Bliss. Ignite the Bliss so that the righteous fire may rise again. And be careful, it does not consume you. Go, Gift, with our blessings and hope."
"Thank you." I thanked the man as I went to explore the cavern.
After making it inside, I had to swim underwater to drain the cavern. Once, I came back up, the water began draining out. Eventually, there was no water so I could travel deeper into the cave. I found the Bliss pipes, shooting them with my revolver. The bullets penetrated the pipes as Bliss started spewing out into the air. Quickly, I began running for the exit to light the cavern on fire. Once I made it outside, I threw two molotovs into the Bliss-filled cave as it bursted into flames. Making it back to the leader, he began speaking.
"Gift, Ethan himself was not able to accomplish this. Clearly, you are the one who will make Joseph's prophecy come true. You must return to Ethan for further instructions. But go knowing you have given us a new hope. All of New Eden will rejoice." The leader smiled at me as I flashed him a smile in return.
"I'll go to Ethan now."
—An Hour Later—
I was standing in front of the New Eden Compound as I knocked on the gate. This time, one of the New Edeners opened the gate, not the masked person. I nodded my head at the man, as I walked past him. Entering New Eden, Ethan and the masked man were standing in front of the people here. Quickly, I made my way to them.
"A non-believer is a sinner. A non-believer does not know our ways. A non-believer—" Ethan spoke loudly in front of the crowd, but was interrupted.
"—has relit our most sacred flame. We need Joseph. He cleanses our sins." A woman cut Ethan off as she turned around to me. "Send the sinner to the North."
A man added, "The Father will absolve the sinner."
Ethan held up his hands, "Family of New Eden, you have searched your hearts and truly believe that this sinner should seek our Father?"
"Yes."
"It is certain."
"The Father shows mercy to sinners. After all, we are all his children." Ethan walked down the steps, placing his hand on my shoulder.
"Prepare the sacrament." Someone told Ethan.
"Yes, the sacrament."
"Prepare the sacrament, Ethan!"
"The sacrament."
"Bring the sacrament."
"Give her the drink."
"Make her drink, please!"
Ethan didn't look very happy at that as my group came into view of the corner of my eye. "The Father guides us in this moment. The sinner is granted pilgrimage North. She will bring back the Father!" Ethan shouted with his hands in the air.
The crowd went wild.
"Praise be to Joseph!"
"Amen!"
"Amen!"
The masked man handed Ethan some kind of drink as Ethan walked up the steps.
Ethan told me, "This will allow you to cross the threshold and live." He placed his hand on my shoulder, making me lay down on the ground. "Bring back proof of his death. They will at last understand I am their prophet. And I'll give you the help you need. We both get what we want." Ethan whispered to me as I drank up. "We will show you the way."
I was only doing this for Jacob and Prosperity. That's it... As soon as I drank the unknown liquid, my vision began to become blurry as I heard shouts of praise to the Father. My head hit the ground as my world went black...
I woke up as my eyesight slowly came back to me. Gradually, I stood up, sort of dizzy. Ethan came into view as I walked up to him.
"What was that shit?" I growled.
"Language. The drink you consumed is to allow you to cross the threshold and live." He replied. "I have much to explain to you. Listen well. Joseph has a sanctuary far to the North. Rituals demands you light signal fires along the way. I doubt the old man is alive to even see them, but if you don't light the fires, it will be the death of you. Because despite the sacrament, the North can still kill you. This boat and the fire are your best means of safe, swift, passage. Stray from them only when it's absolutely necessary. There is a bow there for you. Use fire arrows to light the signals. Bring me proof of my father's death. And I will make sure you are remembered as a friend of the prophet. Go now, with my blessing." He smiled as he pointed to the bow on the table.
I took the bow and fire arrows and turned around to see the masked man and Jacob.
"Jacob." I sighed in relief as I went up to him and hugged him.
Jacob huffed as he embraced me. "Bring Ethan back proof of my brother's death so I can have some goddamn peace, okay? I know this is a dangerous mission, but I trust you and you are so strong. So damn strong... You're the second strongest person I know." He joked as he rubbed my back with his right hand subconsciously.
I pulled away and faked a frown. "Now, who's the first fucking strongest? Who is stronger than thee Axl Grace Johnson?"
"Me."
I laughed as I lightly punched his arm. "Bye Jacob. I need to go."
"Bye, pup." He gave me a small smile and as soon as it was on his face, it disappeared.
I looked at the masked person and grinned at them, then turning around, I nodded my head at Ethan as I hopped into the boat, starting it up. Glancing back at Jacob, I grinned at him and I quickly looked in front of me, forcing the boat to push forward.
