After few minutes Irene finally calmed down and pulled apart from Jason, he carefully tried to look at her trying to catch her eyes. Her eyes were red and swollen from all the crying, he didn't push her by asking any questions.

"Let's get you home, okay?" He held her hand and try to lead the way but Irene didn't move.

"It's okay, i will go by myself, thankyou", a genuine smile flashed on her face with a hint of sadness.

She needed to be alone, Jason knew so he let her go with a exhausted sigh he ran his hand through his hand while watching her walk away slowly disappearing in the distance.

After getting home finally Irene was really exhausted from everything she made her way to her bed and relaxed. After sometime when she was about to fall asleep a ping was heard from her phone, she limply picked it up to saw the notification.

"Hope you got home safe" - Jason.

She stared at the message and whispered to herself "thank you" without replying to the message she soon fell into a deep slumber.

Monday

Waking up, Irene stared at the ceiling after pushing all the thoughts from two days back. She got up and decided to quickly get ready for school.

Reaching school she tried the best she could to avoid everyone and just follow her usual routine without making it obvious that she was upset.

"Hello! Grumpy bear!" Samuel chimed from behind and tapped her head.

She turned around and put a casual smile, "hey Sam, good morning"

He looked at her for a moment and tilted his head a little to left, "is everything okay?" he inquired.

"It's nothing, i am just a bit tired" she gave weary smile and proceeded to head to class.

Moving on the way she saw Jason, making eye contact she remembered that night and got embarrassed, he slowly approached her, concerned.

"Hey.... How are you doing?" He stood at a distance not to get too close.

"I am okay, see you later" giving a quick glance she tried to avoid him and walked away quickly.

Jason stood there confused contemplating, did she just avoided him? He did something wrong? He decided to shrug the thoughts away assuming he must have been overthinking.

Throughout the day Jason could not help but notice that Irene was infact trying to avoid meeting him, even in lunch the conversation they had was awkward.

"Hey Irene, how was day so far" he asked again trying to catch her her eyes.

"It was okay" she said avoiding his eyes.

"Are you avoiding me?" He finally asked the question that was in his mind since the morning.

"No! I am not" she said, her voice went a little high and she again avoided to meet his eyes.

"I feel like you are, talk to me okay" he sighed still looking straight at her.

She slightly looked his way and bit her lips while looking down, after few seconds she started to leave.

"Talk to me, please" Jason voice sounded sincere, he was concerned about her, she was not herself and it showed clearly.

"It's nothing really, i just feel awkward after you know" she admitted still not looking at him.

He suddenly grabbed her hand and lead her away from the classes. Before she could ask where they were going, he answered, " let's talk on the roof, okay" he knew she would be uncomfortable talking while people went here and there around the place.

Finally they reached the roof and he sat her down and himself on a bench that was there. The sky was visible, Irene breathed in the air and exhaled smiling to herself while closing her eyes for a few moment, Jason stared at her seeing how she relaxed and was relieved to see her smile. The wind was softly blowing.

"I am sorry about the whole bet, you are allowed to stay mad at me" Jason started and looked at her.

"It is okay, you never tricked me into doing anything with you" he was surprised by the reply but soon that surprise was replaced with guilt, "but yes i am allowed to be mad at you and i am", she looked at him finally with solemn expression on her face.

"Still.... Thankyou for not letting me cry alone" she looked straight into his eyes, he stared at her brown eyes and was mesmerized, he wanted to know her, he wanted to be close to her.

"I am sorry but i have to ask you to step back, do not get involved with me, Jason" she looked at him with such sad eyes , she did not want to get attached, she always knew she will get hurt, pushing people away was the only thing she could do to protect herself.

"What if i don't want to" He didn't he wanted to do the opposite so he already made up his mind.

"Jason, i... " After hesitating for a moment she finally answered, ""I am a overdramatic, emotional mess, believe me you don't want to be involved" she sighed continuing "I am not a bet you can win over with a little persistence because first, i hate cliches and second, I am aware of those sweet gestures that turns into the wild fire of betrayal" a sad smile on her face.

She felt him reach her hand and hold it, she looked down at their hands together and back at his side profile as he was staring at a distance.

"It's okay." that was all he said taking a deep breath he turned to her and smiled cheekily.

"Let's go!" He pulled her out of her train of thoughts, she didn't knew what else to say to make him stay away, she just let it be and decided not to think much about anything.
