Looking back over the concert later that night, when both were tucked up in bed and chatting quietly - Hye-won propped on pillows, Seon-jae's head snuggled on her chest - they agreed that the Poles were almost as lively and enthusiastic as the Gentians, 'though not quite as noisy, maybe,' Hye-won tittered, which brought a low, rumbling chuckle and the response: 'they liked the Chopin.'

'They loved it, Seon-jae and of course, that's not surprising, considering that he was a native Varsovian - and such a - sindong - prodigy - but that's not the only reason.  You played the no. 10 Études so, so beautifully - God, when you played -Tristesse - Sadness - I could really tell why Chopin himself referred to the melody as his most beautiful.  It was...heart-achingly beautiful.'

He gazed devotedly up at her, her elegant features especially sweet at this angle: 'like someone else we know'.

She shook her head at him and reached to stroke his chin, as his own glorious smile radiated across her warmly, like a gentle ripple across a lake's surface.

'They are so lovely, those 12 early Études.  I know everyone raves about the later no. 25 Études as technically brilliant masterworks - and they are - but I have always preferred those early ones which show such brightness of spirit and are so...hopeful.'

Seon-jae lay contentedly listening to Hye-won describing the other works of the concert - the brilliance of Professor Jo's playing of the Polonaise Fantaisie - Polish Fantasy -  and the excellence of the vocal works performed by Ciara, the highlight of which was certainly the aria Non so piu, cosa son, cosa faccio - I no longer know what I am, what I do from the opera The Marriage of Figaro.

'It seems so long ago that you played that together in our flat the night we invited everyone for dinner.'

'God, you are right.  It does seem like ages ago.  Why is that?'

He fixed her with a determined look: 'maybe because so much has happened between us since then, so much really wonderful stuff, like, oh, I don't know,' he grinned, cutely, 'we declared our eternal, undying devotion to each other and gave ourselves to each other forever, you know, stuff like that.'

She laughed out loud, loving his playfulness: 'you know, I will never get tired of hearing you tell me how great you think I am, Lee Seon-jae.'

'Good.  Because I will never get tired of telling you, Oh Hye-won.'

He threw his arm around her middle and kissed the breast beneath his cheek.

'But great or not, we have to sleep - we are travelling again tomorrow - and we don't want you getting wobbly again.'

His arm around her was soft and strong at the same time and Hye-won needed no extra convincing to lay her hand on his head and close her eyes, her last waking thought being that no-one, anywhere, ever before, could have felt as lucky in love, as she felt at that moment.
