"Hey, Chris. How's your day going?"

It was Hyunjin and Jeongin.

Chris looked between the two distinguishable yet familiar faces, a bit taken aback from their unexpected appearance. "W-what... what are you guys doing here?"

Jeongin gave his signature half-smile. "W-we j-just wanted t-to help y-you out."

Chris blinked, mouth slightly parted. "How'd you... how'd you find me?"

Hyunjin chuckled. "Well, you see, you've kind of been on the news ever since that night. By all your recorded appearances, we kind of knew the general direction of where you were going."

Chris raised an eyebrow. "But here? I thought nobody knew I was here yet until like half an hour ago."

Hyunjin and Jeongin glanced at each other with undescribable looks on their faces before turning back. Jeongin chuckled. "J-jin used h-his t-tech s-skills to c-create a p-program t-to s-scan f-for your face o-on all th-the security c-cameras i-in th-the wh-whole area th-that w-we thought y-you m-might b-be."

Hyunjin smirked. "Yep. And damn, you eat so many granola bars."

Chris furrowed his eyebrows. "How-"

Chris stopped in realization.

Oh.

The camera at the self-checkout at the grocery store.

Chris felt himself start to smile. "Okay, that's kind of impressive."

Hyunjin let out a short, hardy laugh, standing straighter in a jokingly confident stance. "They don't call me Tekit for nothing."

Jeongin playfully flicked Hyunjin on the back of his head in response to Hyunjin's antics. "Sh-shut up, T-tech sh-shit."

Hyunjin jumped. "Hey! Ow... that kind of hurt."

"D-deserved."

Hyunjin rubbed the back of his head with his non-robotic arm, a distinct pout on his face. Chris chuckled, the trio staying for a moment before Chris spoke up again. "So, uh, why'd you come find me?"

Hyunjin spoke, taking a step towards Chris with a smile on his face that almost immediately replaced the pout. "Why wouldn't we? You're one of our friends now, and ever since you became a villain like us, we knew that we'd be there for each other till the very end. We'll help you end this no matter what."

Jeongin stepped forward too, standing back in line with Hyunjin. "Y-yep. W-we w-won't let y-you f-fight b-by yourself. W-we're a-all in th-this t-together."

Chris felt his heart swell a bit.

He could truly call these two his friends.

Chris gave the two a genuine smile. "Wow... thank you."

Hyunjin nodded. "Yeah, of course. So what's your plan right now?"

Chris looked around at the destruction, eyes landing on the fallen building that now has a plane stuck in it. "Well, I'm currently trying to get Strike's attention. Even though I destroyed this building, that bitch still hasn't shown up, so... yikes."

Jeongin raised an eyebrow. "Y-you d-destroyed th-this whole b-building? I m-mean I a-assumed s-so, b-but how? Th-that's i-insane!"

Chris slapped a hand on his air bazooka, which has been leaning against his leg. "This thing."

Hyunjin stared at the gadget. "I wanted to ask about that when I saw it. It looks so cool. What does it do?"

Chris lifted it up onto his shoulder and gestured for his friends to move out of the way. "Watch."

Chris took a stable stance, aimed, and shot a blast of air towards the pile of building and debris. Dust flew in the air, a large impression appearing where Chris shot.

"Damn! Where'd you get this thing?"

Chris set the air bazooka down. "I actually uh... stumbled across an abandoned KimTech building and found a bunch of cool gadgets."

Hyunjin raised his eyebrows. "Really? KimTech has such cool tech shit, I'd really want to see some up close."

"Yeah, I've been using this to knock over this building. I think I killed some people."

Hyunjin raised his hand to give Chris a high five. "Nice! Using gadgets is really fun."

Chris returned the high five. "Yeah, I can really see that now. So destructive."

Jeongin let out a breathy laugh. "D-destroying th-things is a r-really f-fun th-thing."

Chris nodded. "Agreed. We're just going to have to continue until Strike decides to show up. I feel-"

Suddenly, a familiar voice came from behind the trio of villains, interrupting their conversation.

"Well, you don't have to anymore, Chan. I'm right here."

A/N okay but i love writing the villain trio, like the dynamic between them is so fun to write.

anyways, notice anything different about this chapter (or book in general)? ;)
