This was going to be the greatest crime.

---

Not really knowing what to do next, the villains decided to literally just vibe in the van until something happens. Yes, they already figured out their plan for when they finally fight Strike for hopefully the last time, but they had no idea where Strike was.

Sure, they could just destroy public property to get Strike's attention again, but Chris has already done that multiple times. It'd be much easier if they found and attacked Strike when he least expected it, just so they have the element of surprise.

Basically, the villains were just chilling with the radio on, waiting for any reports of Strike doing anything.

Right now, it was late morning, but it didn't really seem like it with how dark it was. Unlike the day before, light gray clouds covered the sky, completely blocking out the blue. The sun was covered, causing no heat to seep through, only cold.

Because of the window that Jeongin melted off and the window that Chris broke with his telekinesis, cold air seeped into the van quite easily. In order to remedy this, they just covered the broken glass with some of Chris' sweatshirts.

The van was quite cozy though afterward. Because of their breath, body heat, and mostly insulated inside of the car, the inside of the van was a much warmer environment than outside.

Hyunjin was currently listening to the radio, specifically on the news channel. Nothing on Strike has come up yet. Jeongin was looking through the things in the compartment in front of him, curiously discovering what the actual owner of the van was like. Chris was just laying across the floor of the van, fiddling with some sort of puzzle game on his phone.

Hyunjin turned off the radio and sighed, turning to the others. "There's still nothing... you guys want to play Uno?"

Jeongin shut the compartment. "H-heck y-yeah!"

Chris set his phone down, sitting up. "You have Uno?"

Hyunjin reached into his pocket, pulling out the familiar red box of cards. "Yep."

Chris blinked. "You brought the deck of cards?"

"Yep."

"In your pocket?"

"Yep."

"This whole time?"

"Yep."

Chris paused. "Damn."

"Yep... I mean, wait... do you want to play or not? Jeongin and I can just play by ourse-"

Chris chuckled. "No no, I want to play. I'm just surprised you brought Uno."

Hyunjin opened up the deck of cards and began to shuffle them. "It's for times like these. And for team bonding."

Chris took the seven cards that Hyunjin handed him after he finished shuffling. "Makes sense. Get ready to lose."

---

The villains all played Uno for hours, only stopping occasionally to check the radio or eat from Chris' granola bar stash. They played for so long that it was literally almost sunset again.

Yet, they couldn't really see the sunset, since the sky was still covered in clouds.

"H-hey l-look! It's s-snowing!"

Chris looked up from the cards into his hands to out the windshield, seeing that Jeongin was right. It was snowing.

Damn.

Snowflakes fluttered down from the sky and to the ground, each small piece of white glistening delicately from the little natural light. Snow began to pile up on the road, forming a work of art.

It was beautiful.

Chris set down his cards. "Whoa. I wonder how much snow there is going to be. We might be snowed in."

Hyunjin also set down his cards and reached over to start the car to turn on the radio. "The news will probably know. The snow might mess with our plans."

Hyunjin turned on the radio, the news channel playing as soon as it turned on.

"...and amidst the first snow of the season, Strike and Mega have appeared to continue to stop crime. Appearing back downtown after visiting other cities, Strike and Mega are back to..."

The three villains immediately looked amongst each other.

Chris whispered, staring at the radio.

"They're here."

A/N I'm curious. Do any of you actually know what abscond means? It's not exactly the most common English word (I've barely heard it used like ever), but abscond is literally probably the most perfect title since it basically describes exactly what happens in this book. It's literally perfect.

if you're too lazy to look up a definition, it basically means to run away quickly, usually in the context of running away to avoid punishment from committing an unlawful act. :)

also, from now on, the book pretty much only has plot-driving scenes. there will be no more scenes that are more laid-back or fillery (kind of like this one) so yeah. the rest of this book is going to be an insane rollercoaster, hopefully you all are ready!

have a nice day!
