Chapter 34

It was the night of Tony's party and Kaylin stood in the bathroom, looking into the mirror.

The past few days, Tony and Bruce had tried different tactics and formulas to keep Kaylin in control of her new abilities. She wanted to get rid of them, because her headaches were inhumanly painful and wouldn't go away. Her body still tried to fight back and it wore her out.

Now, Kaylin was fed up with suppressors and ready to drink the worries away. She was still beating herself for leaving her kids with Hydra - or what's left of it after the Avengers came.

She found her own clothes in the closet on one of the private floors and changed into black jeans with a marine blue t-shirt. Her leather jacket was resting on her bed and she was brushing her teeth.

When she was done, Kaylin curled her red hair and put it into a ponytail. She looked into the mirror again and nodded at herself.

Even though she has no idea who these people were, she wanted to go to the party. Kaylin had found out so much about herself that Hydra kept from her – or as Tony says, 'made her forget' – that she needed her mind to be busy with something else.

Kaylin left the bathroom, grabbed her jacket and made her way towards the elevator. She pushed the button and threw on her jacket. In the reflection of the iron doors, she checked her hair and scared herself when the doors opened and she looked straight into the mirror. She thought she saw someone inside, but there was no one except her.

Kaylin stepped inside and ordered the AI to get her to the right floor. Somewhere inside of her, she recognized the voice. It was a voice she was long forgotten and it gave her a feeling of home, but in the same time it made her sad.

Once Kaylin left the lift, she was overthrown with loud music and laughter. It gave her a strange, but familiar, feeling and the picture she was shown a few days before came to mind. She remembered how they joked about her past and a smile formed on Kaylin's face. Her memory was coming back.

Kaylin made her way through the hallway and into the room. She stepped down the stairs and tried to find a familiar face. When she spotted Bruce almost hitting his head against a low hanging lamp, she walked over to him.

"Hey, Doc." She said to him and he smiled back.

"You didn't see that, did you?" He asked embarrassed.

"Sadly, I did." Kaylin told him. "Is this normal?" She looked around the room and saw the numerous amounts of people talking and dancing and laughing.

"With Stark, yes." He replied. "Tony likes a good party."

"Where is Tony?" Kaylin asked and she scanned the room to find his face.

"Probably still in his lab. He likes to come in late." Bruce told her and he waved to someone on the other side of the room. "Excuse me." He walked away, leaving Kaylin with no one she knew.

Yeah, she knew that all the Avengers knew her, but she didn't know them that good, since she spend all her time with Bruce and Tony. Sometimes Maria came by, but Kaylin found it rather awkward every time they were together. It was like Kaylin wanted nothing more than to crush Maria in a hug and overload her with kisses, but at the same time she wanted to stay away as if she was scared to hurt her or something.

Kaylin had no control over her powers and to enter someone's mind without permission was not something she wanted to do. Besides, she didn't know Maria that well to kiss the woman.

The first time her full capability was accessed - or at least what they thought to be her fullest - she showed Tony everything that happened when Strucker and dr. List trained with her. It was not her intention to do that, but she was shaking pretty badly and Tony ran in when he heard from his AI that Kaylin was getting worse. He found her sitting on the ground against the wall, crying and in a huge amount of pain. He touched her and got sucked into her mind. Just like Kaylin was when she touched Wanda.
