The road to her childhood home in Los Angeles was everything but peaceful. Between almost getting shot by her colleagues, being chased by her deputy-director, and almost being crushed beneath a collapsing building, Kaylin had the most action she'd had in a while.

The ride was a long one and they had to move from a car to a stolen Quinjet, but with Barton's assassin and spy skills, they managed to get to LA without being followed. It was three in the morning, but they were safe for the time being.

Leading the group to the front door, Kaylin bent down to retrieve a spare key from beneath a flowerpot she had made for Mother's Day when she was four. She was about to open the door when Loki spoke up, "Where are we?"

Feeling a bit nostalgic, she had to swallow before she could talk without a stutter. "My childhood home."

Barton walked up to her after having closed off the Quinjet, leaving it cloaked in the backyard. "You know that's a bit predictable, right?"

Answering by opening the door and letting everyone in, she shrugged. "I know what I'm doing, Clint. No one will find us here, I promise you."

Everyone made themselves at home around the living room with Loki standing close to the window. They looked outside while Kaylin cleared her throat.

"Anyone want something to drink?"

There was no reply, so she made something for herself and waited for whatever the next order would be. Loki was thinking, but they had many factors they had no clue how to solve just yet.

Turning around, the god of mischief let their eyes wander over the people in the home. "I have a plan." They announced. "I need to be taken in so I can get on their nerves. You guys can help me escape by putting up a distraction of some kind."

It was a plan where no one spoke against, even if they saw the flaws. Loki was in charge, they called the shots, there was no room for arguing. Not that anyone wanted to go against the god.

Barton stood up. "I can get us a quinjet."

"I can start with making a distraction plan." Kaylin placed down her water glass and pointed towards the staircase. "Beds are upstairs, if you want to rest." The gears were already spinning, brewing up some kind of plan that could work on her colleagues.

Loki made their way to the stairs, but turned around to say one last thing. "Thank you, for your loyalty." He went up the steps and the slam of a door was heard not soon after.

Kaylin started to walk around the house. She hadn't been there since she was twenty, and not much had changed. The house was full of dust, making some of the agents cough and sneeze, but no one did anything to clean it.

The woman went to the stairs with the idea to go into her parents' old room to, maybe, get more ideas for the distraction plan. Her dad used to have amazing distraction ideas, so she hoped the familiarity of the room could spark something in her brain.

Walking past the wall with pictures made Kaylin think back to her youth. Many of the pictures showed a young boy around the same age. They spent so many days together, even going to the same schools, but he left after the funeral of his parents and she only saw him once after that; at her father's funeral.

The boy, she saw as a cousin. Not a brother, because he never wanted her to call him her brother, so the next best thing was a cousin. Family was important to Kaylin, so she cherished every minute of the time she had. It hurt her more than she can express that he walked away and didn't look back.

Kaylin opened the bedroom door and expected it to be empty, but it was not. "Sorry, I'll pick another room." She went to close the door again, but the person inside spoke up,
