Avengers Tower
Location: ManhattanAgainst all the times Mia said no, Tony didn’t listen. In the evening he had gathered Hill and Rogers and was waiting for Romanoff and Barton. Banner didn't want to come, because he respected the wishes of Mia to not throw her a party. Thor was somewhere in England with Foster and he didn't reply to Tony’s messages.
“Thanks for coming.” Tony walked into the small kitchen on his floor. Mia was on hers and didn't know about the meeting on the floor above hers.
“I still don't think we should do this.” Hill spoke up and she took a seat on the bar seat.
“I agree. Mia told us she never celebrates her birthday.” Steve chimed in.
“Do you know why, Rogers?” Tony asked. “No, ‘cause you were a capsicle then.”
“I don't need to know to know it has to do with something painful.”
“Guys, don't start.” Hill interfered. “How are you going to throw a party without her being mad about it?”
“That's why I called you.” Tony said. “If Romanoff and Barton hurried up, we could actually discuss something.”
“We're here.” Natasha walked up to the trio and Clint followed right behind. “No need to be mean.”
“Great, well, you all know that tomorrow is Mimi's birthday and-”
“-and that she didn't want a party.” Clint interrupted.
“Thanks for the reminder, Barton.” Tony picked up his phone and searched something he stored. “She's turning forty and I remember when I turned forty that Rhodey surprised me with a party. I want to do that for Mia too.”
“Again, how?” Hill asked as she watched Tony closely.
“J.A.R.V.I.S., are you there?”
“At your service, sir.” The AI replied.
“Great, give me all the records you have on Mimi's birthday parties.” Tony walked over to the screen in front of the sofa and it turned on. The people who were still standing in the kitchen walked over and took a seat on the sofa or, in Clint's place, the floor.
“Ready, sir.” J.A.R.V.I.S. said and on the screen multiple video's and photos were shown. From the once in the late seventies till the late eighties.
“Tell me what you see.” Tony said and gave the people in the room a change to watch the screen.
“Mia on her birthday.” Clint said and shrugged. “Was there suppose to be something else?”
“No, idiot.” Tony looked at him. “Look at her face. What. Do. You. See.”
“She's happy.” Steve stated and Tony applaud.
“Thank you.” He pointed at the screen. “Mia is happy. When was the last time she truly laughed?”
It was silent for a few minutes. Every single one of them was thinking about a time when they saw her smile. And not a forced one, a true one.
“I know!” Hill stood up and stepped next to Tony. “We were in London last month and we were talking about her first mission.”
Clint remembered that one and started laughing. “Are you sure that was a happy one and not an embarrassed one?” He asked and the smile and Hill's face faded.
“No. The policemen were there so we didn't quit had the chance to talk about it further.” She took her seat on the sofa again and thought some more.
