Midtown School of Science and Technology
Location: New York CityMia was back at the high school. Her recovery went very well and she remembered almost everything Hydra erased. She was at the school to speak with Morita. He had told her that it was okay to come back, but that she needed to stop by his office first.
Mia approached the door that said 'principal Morita' and opened it. Morita was already waiting for her.
"Ah, Kaylin, come in." The man said and Mia did so. She took a seat on the chair in front of the man and placed her bag on her lap.
"Thank you for giving me another change, Morita." Mia began, but Morita cut her off.
"No big deal," he waved it away, "I just had one question: what happened?"
"Oh," Mia practiced what she would say when he, or anyone else, would ask that question, but she didn't think it would be the first question. "I had some family issues. It, kind of, became a mess and I had to say goodbye to someone."
"I'm sorry, were they close to you?" Morita showed compassion, but Mia thought it to be fake. It's the principal after all.
"My son, so, yes." Mia had to relive the feeling of losing Pietro, again. "And my husband. Which I, strangely, don't care for that much."
"My- what happened?" Morita was touched by her story and was glad that the woman before him was still smiling. He didn't know that that was how Mia coped with things. He didn't even know that her name wasn't Kaylin.
"They were in Sokovia for something and... well, you've seen the news." Mia told the man and she looked at her hands. "Anyway, I've spent time with family and it got better. At least I still have my daughter."
"Are you sure that you want to get back to work?" Morita asked. "I'm happy to give you a few weeks off, if necessary."
"It won't be necessary." Mia looked up and smiled. "I had months to mourn. I'm ready to go back to teaching."
"Wonderful," Morita took a file out of his drawer. "Can you maybe take over the Freshmans from Delia? She told me that those kids are a handful."
"Sure." Mia took over the file and look into it. "Ah, I had them last year, too. Mr. Thompson is quite the attention seeker."
"The first students are coming in now, so, go to your classroom and prepare. That class is your first." Morita stood up and Mia followed his example. They shook hands and Mia left to search for her classroom. It has been a while and she bumped into a few students before she found the right door.
The classroom was dark and empty. The substitute didn't replace anything, but it wasn't decorated, too.
Mia decided that she would bring decorations the next time, but for now, she would have to do with what she had. Which isn't much, but she was satisfied.
Mia prepared her desk and wrote the important things on the bord for the first student came in.
"Morning, Miss." A girl with a pink hijab came in and took a seat in the middle of the room.
"Morning, Yasmin." Mia turned to the girl. "How was your summer?"
"Too short." The girl answered with a small smile. "It's good to have you back. Not many teachers are fun."
"Thank you for the compliment." Mia smiled and more students came in. They took a place and watched the teacher with big eyes. All that they knew, was that the woman disappeared and they didn't know why. She didn't come back for the rest of last schoolyear and now she's standing before them.
