"it's over"

You were sitting in the Ferrari paddock next to your boyfriend Charles. He was discussing with some mechanics about the strategy for the race. You two had gone through ups and downs and in the end you both finally realized that you could not live without the other one. When you were still teenagers, Charles told you that he was in love with you but at that point you couldn't share these feelings. Later, you started developing feelings and started dating Charles. You spent many days together and then Charles broke your heart. He wanted to talk with you and you really thought that this would be the moment he would ask you to be his girlfriend. But he didn't. He told you that he didn't feel mature enough to have a real relationship with 16 years of age. "I'm so sorry (Y/N). But you deserve someone who can give you the love you deserve and I'm not ready for a long term relationship yet. You know, I'm still behaving like a teen-aged boy,  I'm childish and irresponsible and you are acting so grown up. I hope that one day I'll be able to show you how much I love you. But I don't deserve you, it's over. Don't be sad about it, it's not your fault but... yeah... I know you were waiting for me asking you to be my girlfriend, the first kiss, the first time sleeping together and so on but I'm not ready yet. I can't tell you how sorry I am." You could still remember these words like it was yesterday. They hit you very unexpected and you were absolutely shocked and ran out of the apartment Charles was living in. He tried to contact you several times but you didn't and couldn't respond as his words broke your heart. But on the other hand you really appreciated the fact that he told you the truth before you would recognize afterwards that the relationship wouldn't work the way it should.

Two years later, after you had just turned 18, Charles stood in front of your door. Your feelings towards him filled your whole body and you could not stop looking at him. Charles asked you if it was ok to talk and you agreed. He seemed to be pretty nervous and you were even more. Not one word left your mouth as he sat down opposite to you. "(Y/N), first of all a happy 18th birthday. I hope you really enjoy that day. Now... you want to know why I'm here for sure. (Y/N) I really need to talk to you. I know that I acted like an idiot. But I'm an honest person and I had to tell you what's on my mind. And maybe, just if you feel the same way...I mean I still have feelings for you and maybe we couldn't have a birthday dinner tonight? " You didn't know what to think about it. Two years ago he told you that he wasn't ready for a relationship and rejected you and now he appeared again, telling you he was ready now. But one dinner doesn't mean that he would like to start a relationship now... You spent the evening at the restaurant together with him and you could still remember that feeling when he put his lips on yours after saying goodbye to him. Your whole body was full of love and butterflies when he kissed you. You had a big smile on your face and...

"(Y/N)? Are you still with us?" Charles was laughting. He had torn you out of the daydream. Your cheeks blushed a bit as you said "Yeah, sorry. I had a daydream". Charles had finished his preparation for the next race and you both were walking back to the hotel before he invited you to a dinner.
