"are you two dating?"

Dating with one of the drivers one of the team drives is a no-go. That's one of the first things you learn as a female mechanic in motorsport. Especially when you are working in F2 the highest racing class after F1. You started working with Prema Racing three years ago, learning a lot and getting better every year. While you started in F4, now you ended up in Formula two with Oscar and Robert as your drivers. Your job was to optimize the aerodynamics of Oscar's car and it was your dream job since you've been young.

As you and the two drivers shared the similar age, you hang out a lot together and you three called yourself the 'tripple gang'. If course that was Robert's idea. The season went pretty well for both Prema drivers, especially for Oscar, who almost drove equal times like Robert. In the summer break, you often visited Oscar as he was living just thirty minutes away from your apartment. Your friendship got deeper and deeper and as you lay next to each other on the couch, you realized you had feelings for him the first time. You shook your head, this should never happen and you weren't allowed to even think about it. Oscar turned his head towards you, feeling your conflict in your head. "What's wrong (Y/N)?" You couldn't look into his eyes. He lay his arms around your shoulders as you didn't answer and pulled you closer to him. "(Y/N) I think I know what's wrong with you... Is it because we spend so much time together? You know I really enjoy that... And I've developed feelings for you. But ...I know that we're not allowed to." That took a lot off your mind but at the same time it broke your heart because you knew that you couldn't even go on a official date just because you were not allowed to." Oscar, yes you are right. And that almost breaks my heart because I realized I have feelings for you, too. And we're just not allowed to." Oscar gave you a long, tight hug until he had an idea. "(Y/N) what about if we try at least? I don't want to risk your job so maybe we could FaceTime René, our team principal asking for help? I mean he will recognize after the break that something is different between us. So better to tell them now. What do you think? " You thought about it for a bit because you were not happy that your boss would know you are in love with one of his drivers. But at the end it was worth a try. Oscar searched for René's number, ready to call him. "Oscar, but you're the one talking ok?" He nodded and that made you smile.

After a few seconds, you could see René's surprised face on the display. "Hey Oscar... and (Y/N)? Wait, are you two dating?!" You were looking down as you could hear he was already angry. "René, I know it's a no-go for me and (Y/N) but we can't hide our feelings for each other and that's why we would like you to know it first. I mean be can't just pretend there's nothing." You could hear that René was taking a long, deep breath before answering. "Ah...You two really made me a big surprise you know. But yes I mean I understand your point. And I want to give you the chance, you know I'm an old man, let me give you one advice: Never try to fight against your love. Maybe it's the best solution that you, (Y/N) will switch positions with Robert's mechanic. Because then you can still work in our F2 team like before but you two don't have the problem to loose your professionalism at work. And you can spend like every minute together. What about that?" You couldn't believe your ears. "René I can't believe it! Thank you so much, really. I thought you would kick me out of the team. But yes, I would be very happy if you could manage that I'll just switch with one of Robert's mechanics." After talking for almost an hour with René and his little son who was a big fan of Oscar, you spent the evening together, while you lay in his arms, now sure that you were allowed to show your feelings to the other even in public.
