Part 23

It hurt. It really fucking hurt.

He watched james walk outside to the front of the school, the girl hooking her arm around his elbow.

The half empty butterbeer bottle was sitting on the desk in front of him in the abandoned classroom just above the main doors.

Severus watched them walk away, beyond the school doors and to the familiar path to hogsmeade.

" sev? You in here?" A small voice called from the door.

He turned his head and saw the door swing open. He was expecting lucius or regulus but he instead saw fiery red hair.

He smiled softly, watching lily gingerly close the door and walk to where he was sitting by the window.

She took a seat in front of him, turning the chair around and resting her chin on the back of it.

" you ok? We missed you at dinner." She whispered softly.

" yeah.....i-" Severus stopped. He didnt really know what he was feeling.

He couldn't say he was fine because his heart ached and everything hurt but at the same time he felt emotionless. He felt like everything was drained out of him.

" im fine." He willed himself to say but he knew lily could see through it.

Lily then pushed herself back, standing up and flipping the chair around so that chair's back was facing away from her.

She sat down on it, muttering a small conjuring spell and a bottle of fire whiskey appeared on the desk along with two glasses.

" you need something a little stronger." She reasoned.

She didn't usually drink, only when someone needed it or when she was really pissed.

Severus smiled again, a small chuckle escaping his lips as she poured the drink into the glasses, sliding one over to the other end of the desk.

" so.....you wanna talk about it?" Lily asked, taking a small sip.

Severus sighed, looking out the window and shrugging.

" everything just hurts. I feel drained. I cant even tell if what I'm feeling is heartbreak." He said with a blank look.

Lily has never seen Severus like this before. Usually after a break up he's normal, he's ok.

He goes back to studying or playfully making fun of his friends almost immediately but its been almost 8 hours and Severus hasn't spoken to anyone.

They couldn't find him for hours, missing him at lunch and dinner.

For a while he was holed up in the slytherin potion room, experimenting and such with different ingredients.

Then he left in a hurry, fleeing out of the common room and they couldn't find him since. Until now.

" lily it hurts." Severus whispered. His voice when an octave lower than usual, his eyebrows knotted and tears threatening to form.

" i know........it will be ok."

" will it?"

" yes." Lily persisted. She wasn't going to let snape give up, not after all he's been through.

" yes it will. James loves you, you know that."

Snape huffed, a chuckled escaping through his noise and he pursed his lips.

" if he did then he wouldn't have left on that date five minutes ago." He bit his bottom lip and took a swig from his glass.

Lily's face changed.
