"I'm expelled?" I asked Miss Vaughn, i furrowed my eyebrows in confusion.

"No you're moving schools. Just go to the hospital, it's your parents, they're critical." Miss Vaughn said desperately, I almost felt myself laugh.

"This is a joke right?" I laughed faintly, but her emotionless expression didn't falter, and I just walked out of the office, slamming shut the door.

I walked out of the school, gazing at the building which felt like prison to me. I wouldn't miss this school, I hated it. Before getting into the taxi, I flipped it off, laughing.

"Alright missy. You seem happy considering your parents are in hospital, dying." The taxi driver said gruffly, I kept up my hard girl persona,

"I don't give a fuck." He looked at me in the wing mirror, before sighing and leaving to go to the hospital.

I wrinkled my nose at the smell of disinfectant and illness. I hated hospitals, always have, always will. I remember my mum telling me how I was supposed to stay in hospital for a week after I was born, instead I stayed for 2 days. I don't know what I hate about them, I just do.

"Are you Faith? Faith Smith?" A nurse asked me, alongside her stood a smartly dressed woman. Social worker.

"The only." I laughed, but their faces remained grim.

"Your parents have been in a car accident. Your mother died at impact, but your father is in critical condition, and is being operated on." The nurse said, looking at me for any sign of tears. I felt sad, but I didn't cry. I don't cry, it just doesn't happen.

"Oh, okay." I said quietly, my voice cracking slightly, before coughing and repeating myself.

"You're 17, yes?" The social worker said. I just nodded, not quite paying attention. "If your father survives, which is likely, he'll be in here for a few months, so you're going to live with your aunt." She said, looking at her file.

"I don't have an aunt." I hummed, I don't have any relatives.

"Your mother has a sister who lives in Australia." She said, raising an eyebrow at me. I think deep, she may have mentioned having a rich sister, but I wasn't really listening.

"Australia?" I asked, looking between the two, they nod solemnly, while I jumped, feigning punching the air,
"Sweet!" They look surprised at my outburst, but the social worker continues speaking.

"We've got your flight booked, your going tonight." She said, and I feel myself bubble in excitement at the thought of something different.
