Faith's p.o.v
I think I'm dead. The darkness in my head consumes me, and I realise that this may be it; maybe there is no heaven or hell, there is just darkness.
I feel like this is what should have happened to me, that I should have died with my parents, and I just prolonged the inevitable. I think I would have been happier if I died with my parents. But then I wouldn't have met Luke. I try and move at the thought of his name, I need to fight this, for him, for Aunt Bess and most importantly, for my parents. They wouldn't want me to just give up.
"Her heart rate is steadying." A far away male voice says. It sounds as though I am under water. I have to strain my ears, but I can definitely hear a voice.
"I think she's going to pull through!" A female voice says, the voices sound more coherent, but still as though I'm listening through a wall, or something.
I'm then pulled back into the darkness, but somehow, I know this time it's going to be less permanent.
~~~
I feel a dull warmth in my right hand, as though someone is holding it. In fact, I know someone is holding it, and I know that someone is Luke.
"You're gonna get better, okay? I love you and that love is enough to make you get better. If you don't...I swear..." His voice fades out and I hear a quiet sniff. He's crying. I desperately want to reach out and console him, and prove that I am still here, but something stops me. It's like there's a wall between me and everyone else. I just want to wake up and everything be the same again.
"Please, do something, show me you're here and okay and that you're going to be fine." He begs. To this I try and focus all my energy into my hand, just a gentle squeeze will be enough, but try as I might, nothing happens. He sighs and releases my hand.
"I'm just gonna talk to Ashton..." He says, and I hear the door close. I'm all alone, again.
~~~
"Faith, darling." A voice says, which I immediately recognise to be Aunt Bess'.
"I'm sorry I couldn't be there for you, not just at the accident but also at the funeral. I just didn't think. I don't really think, I shouldn't leave you on your own so often, you need someone there for you, and I'm only just realising that now." She starts crying quietly. I feel awkward and want her to stop crying.
'It's okay.' I think and am surprised when I actually hear my own voice. Aunt Bess lets out an audible gasp.
"Faith!" She exclaims.
"Hi." I say hoarsely. My eyes are still closed, but I can finally see through my eyelids, the red telling me that the room is going to be really bright.
Aunt Bess stands up and opens the door to the room, which squeaks alarmingly.
"Luke!" She calls.
"What's happened?" He asks, sounding concerned, at his voice I feel my eyelids flutter open. I was right, the room is really bright.
"She's waking up!" Aunt Bess exclaims. I hear repetitive footsteps and see Luke standing at the doorway to my room.
"Oh my god, Faith!" He exclaims, rushing over to me and pulling me into a hug.
"Hey." I say hoarsely, again. I feel like my throat is made of sand paper.
"Are you okay? Please tell me you're okay?" He demands. I look at him closely and realise he has a few scratches on his face, but most are halfway through healing. His leg is also in a cast, and he is relying on crutches.
"I'm okay. A bit thirsty." I shrug, moving up the bed slightly so my head is more elevated and I can actually look at everyone horizontally rather than having to stare up at them.
"Hello, Faith." A male doctor says, walking into the room, carrying in one hand a file and in the other a tall glass of water. He hands me the water and looks over my file.
"Do you remember what happened?" The doctor asks.
"I was in an accident." I say, cutting straight to the point.
"No amnesia." He says to himself, writing something on his file.
"Do you know what day it is?" He asks me. I frown my head trying to work it out. It only feels like hours ago I was in the accident, but judging by the fact some of my scratches and cuts have healed already it must have been longer than that.
"A day?" I ask, Luke looks at me, worried.
"You've been out for 4 days." He tells me.
"It's normal for you to be unsure of time while being in a coma, so don't worry. You have no other injuries, but we'll need to keep you under observation for at least 2 more days, then you're free to go." The doctor tells me, continuing to scribble on his notepad.
"Oh, great." I say after downing the glass of water. I'm also surprised that I'm being let out so quickly. I expected to stay for at least another week.
"I know it's quick, but you only had internal bleeding which was quickly fixed, the only reason you were here for so long was because we had to put you in a medically induced coma." He informs me, gathering up all his files and then walking out the room.
"I'm going to go get you something to eat. Do you want McDonald's?" Aunt Bess asks. I don't know why, but the way she says McDonalds makes me laugh. Her voice is so upper class that it sounds strange.
"Yes, please." I beg, almost salivate at the thought of food.
She leaves and then it's just Luke and I.
"I'm sorry." He says immediately, but I cut him off.
"Don't, don't even. It was an accident." I tell him.
"An accident?" He asks, raising one eyebrow slightly.
"Yes." I say simply. He opens his mouth to say something but is interrupted.
"Faith I-have-no-middle-name Smith! What are you doing?" Michael asks, bounding into the room like a little puppy. I blink in surprise at the fact he now has black hair.
"Gordon! You've died your hair!" I exclaim, pointing in awe at it. He does look really good with Black hair.
"When I heard their was an accident, I thought he worst had happened and went into mourning straight away." He informs me. I roll my eyes at him, but bring him in to a hug all the same.
Ashton and Calum come into the room next. Followed by someone I didn't expect to see, Imogen.
"Hey!" Calum exclaims, holding his knuckle out for me to punch, I do it and he grins at me.
"Hello, Ash." I say to Ashton, nodding at him. I then turn slightly so I'm facing Imogen. I have a quick conflict on whether I should be sarcastic to her, or actually be nice. I decide I shouldn't be a bitch, and greet her properly.
"Hey Imogen." I smile genuinely at her, and she looks relieved.
"Hi, I'm glad your okay." She smiles at me, I return the smile but then frown, realising Calum, Michael and Luke are in the same room and they aren't arguing. Everyone looks really happy.
"How much was I drugged up, why is everyone so happy?" I ask, everyone laughs slightly, then Luke shakes his head.
"We've sorted everything out, I think. Everything's going to be okay." He smiles, looking at me fondly. I look around the room at everyone, and believe he may be right.
