"Oh, Faith, you're up?" The lead maid who brung me here says in shock. I still haven't learnt her name and I feel bad.
"Yeah, I thought I should get to school on time." I tell her, she nods approvingly then continues her duties around the house. I grab a breakfast bar from the cupboard and sit on the counter.
"Oh, Faith... I didn't expect to see you here." Aunt Bess exclaims when she comes into the room. She's dressed in a fluffy dressing gown and is holding a cup of coffee, her hair and makeup is flawless. I'm pretty sure she has a make up artist sitting in her cupboard, waiting for her to need a dust up.
"Yeah..." I mumble, covering my mouth with my hand due to the fact I am halfway through eating.
"Do you want a lift to school?" She offers, and I shake my head.
"I'll walk with Michael." I explain, she looks slightly disappointed.
"Thanks for the offer, though." I add quickly and she nods, but leaves the room quickly. I don't know why I feel so bad, I didn't care before if she was upset as I have learnt that Aunt Bess is very sentimental.
I grab my phone to text Michael to come to mine like he usually does before school, when I realised that I have never been to his house, even though it's right next to mine, so instead of texting him I get my school bag and leave.
I walk the short distance between my house and Michael's house, then knock on his door. Michael's house is very similar to mine, maybe a bit smaller, but the architecture is all the same, like it is in every house down this road. I knock on the door and wait patiently for someone to open.
"Hello?" A smartly dressed lady who looks similar to Michael asks when she opens the door and sees me there.
"Hi, Mrs Clifford, right? Erm, I'm Michael's friend....we walk to school together." I say nervously under her scrutinising gaze.
"Come in dear, he takes a while to get ready, what's your name?" She asks, almost shoving me into the house.
"Faith Smith." I answer politely and she nods as she ushers me into a large kitchen.
"Why have I never seen you before?" She wonders, I'm unsure whether this is a rhetorical question or not.
"I moved here about a month ago, I just don't get outside much." I reply, then laugh nervously. Her face, which is void of any emotion, stops me laughing and I cough to cover up my laugh.
"Michael! Your....friend is down here." She shouts unexpectedly, making me jump.
"What?" He shouts back,
"What friend?" He says, his voice sounding closer, I look towards the staircase to see Michael standing at the top. He is dressed and looks as though he has been up for a while.
"Oh, hey Faith, I thought you were gonna text me?" He frowns, and I shrug as I still feel Mr' Cliffords gaze on me.
"Alright, bye mum." He mutters, half waving awkwardly to his mother.
"How comes you didn't just text me like you usually do?" Michael asks once we are on our way to school.
"I don't know, I just felt bad because you always come to mine first." I shrug.
"You're calling it your house now." Michael grins,
"Oh...I haven't even noticed." I frown, when did I start calling it my house? It isn't my house, I know that...but it is starting to feel like home.
"It feels like I've lived here forever, it's only been a month." I sigh, and it's true, I've learnt so many knew people that I've forgotten most of the people from my English school, I think I've started developing an accent as well.
"Yeah... I still remember seeing you sit by the pool side though." Michael grins, I smile slightly due to the fact I thought Michael was really weird, now I'd say he is my best friend.
"Your hair was red then." I comment, his hair is now a light blue to purple colour, I told him it looks cool but he's not convinced.
"I might just bleach it and leave it blonde for a bit." He sighs, pulling at his hair slightly, if he pulled any harder I think it might fall out due to the fact he dyes it so often.
"Do whatever you want, I like it how it is though." I reassure, but he doesn't look convinced.
We enter the school gates and I loiter with Calum and Michael while we wait for first bell to ring, signalling first lesson - which is music.
"Faith, Luke keeps looking over here." Michael comments, looking at me with a raised eyebrow.
"Who wouldn't wanna look at this." I joke, trying to brush off the fact Luke is looking over but secretly I'm thrilled. While Calum and Michael are talking about some new video game I take a sneak peek in what I think is Luke's direction.
He's sitting on the tabletop of one of the benches with Ashton by his side, Ashton is turned slightly towards him and appears to be talking to him but Luke is full on staring at me. I awkwardly half wave, and when he notices, he smirks slightly causing my cheeks to heat up slightly so I turn away.
Meanwhile, first bell rings, so Michael, Calum and I get up from where we're sitting and leave to go to the music block.
