The first half of music lesson was just theory, but the second part, was pure bliss. I could actually make music. The lessons here are about an hour and 15 minutes long so I now have 40 minutes to make music. I grabbed one of 3 guitars sitting on the side, and immediately start tuning it, Calum gets a keyboard and Michael gets the other guitar, which pisses of the girl that was sitting in front of me, as some other boy I don't know yet got the third guitar.
"What shall we play?" Michael asks, also tuning his guitar.
"Considering I have a keyboard, something slow." Calum says. We all think, then I start playing John Legends 'all of me'. At first Michael and Calum look confused, but then I get into the full tune and their eyes light up with recognition. Michael watches me play the notes a few times, then copies. For some reason I don't ask, Calum already knows the melody, so he plays that. When it gets to the lyrics, I softly sing.
"What would I do without your smart mouth? Drawing me in, and you kicking me out, you've got my head spinning, no kidding, I can't pin you down. What's going on in that beautiful mind, I'm on your magical mystery ride
And I'm so dizzy, don't know what hit me, but I'll be alright..." I try to stick to the tone but I can't help dragging out the notes to show my true voice potential. Like learning the instruments, I looked up the best possible ways to sing and all the different notes to sing, and it just came naturally to me.When I reach the pre chorus, Calum joins in, and his voice is actually really good, no it's amazing. I'm too caught up in the singing and playing to notice everyone is now quiet and watching us.
On the chorus, Michael joins in, so all 3 of us are singing together, and it actually sounds pretty good. We all sing the rest of the song together, and I can't believe how good it sounds, all our voices blending together. When we finally finish, everyone applauds us, and I blink in surprise. Even our teacher claps, even though I'm convinced he hates me.
"What did we do?" I whisper to Michael, who's bowing and lapping at the applause.
"We kicked ass!" He shrugs, punching the air, Calum and I laugh at him, meanwhile everyone goes back to whatever they were doing. I strum at the guitar and play a tune I came up with myself (THE AMNESIA TUNE OKAY) and Michael and Calum watch me,
"Did you come up with that yourself? I'm well educated in music, but I've never heard that before." Michael frowns.
"Yeah, I got bored once at home and just randomly started playing this." I shrug, I look over the classroom and stop when I see a drum kit.
"I didn't know you had a drum kit!" I exclaim, it was over the other side of the room, and surrounding it was some other more fitting instruments. A bass guitar and an electric guitar. No one was using them, so we probably wasn't allowed, but I don't care. I rushed over and sat at the stool in front of the drums.
"Sir!" I call to our teacher. He walks over to me and sighs.
"We're not supposed to use these." He shakes his head.
"Please! I know how to play." I pout at him.
"I can play bass!" Calum pops out of nowhere, and Michael has already picked up the electric guitar.
"Fine, we have 10 minutes though, and turn the volume on the amps low! And keep it down." Sir sighs, walking over to some other kid who can't tune his guitar.
"Do you know the band green day?" Michael asks me, I nod,
"American idiot?" He suggests, I nod again, and hit the sticks 3 times before starting to drum. I've always loved playing the drums, the speed, the sound, feeling the vibrations of the music I'm making hit the floor, I just love it. I love the speed of this song, because I can't get too distracted otherwise I'll mess up. I softly sing along to the lyrics out of second nature. I don't bother putting too much effort in, otherwise, like I said, I'd get too distracted.
We go over this song what feels like 10 times, but when we complete it for the last time that lesson, I decide music class will be my favourite lesson, even though I haven't experienced any other lessons.
