NEW FRIENDS, NEW FOES

It had been almost full month since Arabella Black and Harry Potter had returned back home from their fascinating trip to Diagon Alley and a quite a lot had happened to them both since then.

For one, Arabella and Harry had been permitted by Petunia Dursley and Gertrude Polkiss to finally meet up together during the remainder of the summer holidays. They spent hours on end just lying in the summer's sun in an empty field watching the breeze blow through the line of trees in front of them and talking about everything to do with Hogwarts and magic.

Harry had told her all about the pale boy with a pointed face from Madam Malkins robes for all occasions back in Diagon Alley and everything he was saying. In return, Arabella told him all about the different houses and traits that the other boy, Lawrence, had told her about at her time in Madam Malkin's.

She was sure she was going to be put in Hufflepuff. It didn't seem to bad either and that was where she actually wanted to be sorted into but Harry thought otherwise. He told her that she fit most of the traits of a Ravenclaw and a Hufflepuff so it would most likely be one of those. Arabella thought without a doubt that Harry would be put into Gryfindor but he thought he was going to be put into Hufflepuff too. Either way they both just hoped that they would be in the same house together so everything would be at least a little less awkward for them.

Hagrid had also bought Harry and Arabella an owl each as a birthday present back when they were in Diagon Alley. He had explained that these could be used to send mail to other witches, wizards and other magical people if they needed too, each Hogwarts student was also required to take a pet each whether it was a toad, owl, cat or rat so it definitely came in handy.

Harry had named his owl Hedwig after a name he had found in one of his magical textbooks for Hogwarts whereas Arabella had been torn to name hers either Archimedes after the famous Merlin's owl or name it Aphrodite after a greek goddess she knew about from one of her old Muggle history textbooks. In the end, she went with Aphrodite which her owl seemed to like a lot too.

On the morning of September 1st 1991, Arabella had hardly slept at all. She had memorised most of her textbooks word for word in all the spare time she had left in the summer holidays but still she felt the need to read over them one last time as soon as she woke up at about 5am in the morning when no one else but herself and Aphrodite were awake.

She spent the whole morning, up until around 9am, gathering her belongings and stuffing them into her Hogwarts trunk. Arabella must have checked it about twenty times thoroughly before she left the house with Gertrude. The car ride to Kings Cross station was painfully silent, she didn't dare say a word though because her Aunt would quite literally turn around on the motorway and drive back home if she did or said anything that angered her.
