THE NECKLACE Chapter Seven
The Christmas holidays flew by that year and they weren't as terrible as Arabella would have thought. Sage and Lawrence usually stayed behind at Hogwarts to not leave her by herself but this year, most parents had gone to extra efforts to make sure their children remained at home over the holidays since there was a mass murderer on the loose and he was known to be lurking around Hogwarts.
Now that it was a month or so into the next term and everyone had once again returned, Arabella was struggling to get used to the absence of the tranquil silence that had once filled the room, allowing her to sleep easily. But since she wasn't much of a sleeping person anyway, never being able to fall asleep quite as easily as the other girls in her dorm, she lay awake recounting the events that had happened over the past couple of weeks over Christmas...
Harry moved his firebolt broomstick to the side and handed Arabella another smaller present off the pile and Arabella opened it eagerly. She reached into the paper and pulled out a necklace, but it wasn't any old necklace, this one had a large clear diamond as the pendant was covered with swirls of platinum silver with a few intricate details carved into it. The pendant was strung onto a delicate silver chain that was clasped at the back.
She tried it on instantly and tucked it into her top and in doing so, she noticed a small piece of parchment lay in the open wrapping paper from which the necklace was wrapped in. Arabella picked it up from out of the mangled bits of paper and read over it,
'Someone intended for me to give this to you long ago, and it is about time that I return it to its rightful owner.'
"What does it say?" Asked Harry, running over to get a closer look at the note, "It's not been signed by anyone, that's weird isn't it?"
Ron came over to have a look at the letter too, "Are you going to keep it?"
Arabella slowly nodded, quite unsure if it was the right thing to do or not, "Yeah I am actually."
The present she had anonymously received was still clasped around her neck at that very moment and she was unconsciously twirling it between her fingers and tracing the delicate outlines of intricate details swirled across the cold metal. Her finger tapped something loose on the back of the pendant and something on the back of it swung open, gently hitting her collarbone as it did so.
"What the.." She whispered to herself, quick to stop herself from waking the other girls up. Arabella scrambled to find her wand which was effortlessly strewn across her bedside table, "Lumos!"
She covered the soft orange glow with her hand and dragged the covers of the bed over her body and head, careful not to illuminate the rest of the room with the light she had just produced. She took off the necklace and held it by the pendant. A small door on the back of it had swung open, revealing a miniature bottle of liquid which she tried to pry out with her hands but to no avail.
