NIGHTMARES AND DAYDREAMS Chapter Sixteen
"I swear to god Elle, you can't catch a ball to save your life."
Arabella laughed the comment off with ease, but it was annoyingly true. Despite the girls' only main form of entertainment over the summer being their small games of volleyball in Sage's back garden, she would be forever terrible at it no matter how much effort she put into learning how to play. Thankfully it didn't matter much to her, as due to Arabella's overwhelming lack of any sporting skills and experience, the two girls were forced to find other ways to have fun during the exceptionally uncomfortably warm months of July and August.
One of these things was specifically catered towards Sage Robinson herself, which was spending every living second with her boyfriend Dean, who had spent a couple of weeks towards the end of July staying up in Liverpool with some family. Of course Sage excitedly jumped on the opportunity, and dragged Arabella along with her to go and hang out with Dean, which she had to pretend towards herself that she wasn't furiously livid about. Sage repeatedly suggested that Arabella get herself a boyfriend, but the male species were the least of her troubles at the moment.
It wasn't always too bad third-wheeling however. One time she was forced into one of the local cinemas to watch the disreputable new movie, 'the mask', the film infamous for its appearance of Cameron Diaz which she couldn't exactly complain about. Whilst Sage was trying to see how far she could get her tongue down dean's throat, Arabella watched every scene Tina Carlyle was featured in with awe, her eyes lingering at the gorgeous red dress for a little too long.
But after Dean finally went home again, everything went back to normal once more. The girls spent the rest of their time together in the local HMV, where they must have spent over £50 on Pulp, The Verve, Oasis,The stone roses (Arabella staying true to her Manchester origins) and Nirvana until they got kicked out by the owner for having a mini meltdown in the classical music isle after they found out Kurt Cobain was dead.
Sage had taken to makeup a lot over the holidays too, and spent every free minute they had at home practicing eyeshadow on both herself and Arabella who has even learnt a few things from her friend too. She had always admired Sage's natural beauty, but something over the summer must have changed something in them both as the days crept towards the end of August, they both looked utterly stunning with or without makeup.
Sage had luckily grown about an inch and a half taller, her gorgeous hair had become much fuller than it had been before. She had acquired a some new piercings in both her ears and the side of her nose done by herself too, somehow miraculously without contracting any infection which was impressive, and always wore the same glimmering gold nose ring that they had picked up from a beauty shop.
