"Happy Birthday Jamie!" I opened my eyes to see Hestia hovering over me. Her deep brown eyes were filled with happiness. I sat up rubbing my eyes. Hestia reached out and hugged me tightly, I buried my head into her neck taking in her homey scent, it was so welcoming and familiar. "I can't believe you are 13 now." She said pulling back and smiling at me hugely. "We need to celebrate. How about I take you out and we go to beach?"
My face spread into a huge smile. "Can we?" I asked excitedly. Hestia nodded.
"Now come on and get ready aura." Hestia said using my nickname. I had no idea why she called me that, I looked it up and it was latin for breeze. I had asked her about it multiple times and she just gave me the same generic answer. 'You just have the personality of wind.' Like I knew what that meant.
I shook off that thought and made my way to my bathroom that was attached to my room. I had to step over piles of clothes and blankets just to get to my bathroom which was equally as messy as my room. I may have had a clear and focused mind, but my room did not reflect it.
I took a cool refreshing shower. I was sweaty from the night before because I had slept with my windows open instead of having my AC on, so I woke up to the hot May air nearly roasting me alive.
Once I was done, I hastily put on my two piece bathing suit which was a deep blue that just so happened to match my eyes. Hestia always told me about how my appearance looked exactly like my mother. I had never known my mother, she died giving birth to me, but from the pictures she was an extremely gorgeous, always smiling or laughing. But as much as I matched my mother, Hestia insisted that my personality was a lot like my father, Hestia's brother. She said I got my spunk and lightheartedness from my mother, and my intensity, power, and leadership from my father.
I hated to think that I had gotten anything from him. Hestia had told me that he had given me to her telling her to watch over me because he had to take care of some things, and he never came back for me. He never calls, the only interaction I have had with him was a few letters and this house which he left for Hestia to take care of me. He abandoned me, leaving me with nothing to show for it. I felt closer to the wind then to my own father.
I threw on a tank top over me and put on a pair of shorts. I ran a comb through me long straight dark brown hair until it was completely knot free, and flowed freely down my back which stopped at my mid back. I decided against putting on makeup being that it would just smear in the ocean.
I grabbed my towel and made my way out to the kitchen to where Hestia was packing a basket full of food and drinks. She looked up grinning ear to ear. I couldn't help but smile back. Hestia may have been my aunt but she acted more like a super cool older sister. She was 18 and had warm brown hair and matching big brown eyes. Just looking at her made one feel like you were home. Her tanned skin made it look like she was toasted by a fire, and bits of freckles danced across her nose. Her 5 5' height made her perfect size for pretty much everything. I loved Hestia with all my heart.
"Stop starring, and start helping me pack up stuff." She said. I walked in putting my towel and bag on the floor and went over to the counter and started making my favorite snack, cucumber sandwiches. Hestia soon joined me. We sang along to our favorite Shania Twain CD and danced along. It was in these moments that I was the happiest and most content.
Once all the food was packed and the towels, chairs, and suntan lotion were all in the car, we headed off towards Ocean City New Jersey. It was about and hour and a half drive, but I didn't mind at all. Hestia and I would just put the windows down and blare our favorite music and not give a care in the world.
Once in the car we headed out. "Are we going to go to the boardwalk tonight or are we going to head home early?" I asked hoping it would be the boardwalk. The first time I had visited the boardwalk was the first time I had flown a kite, and it was the coolest thing in my mind. I made Hestia buy me one so that I could fly on at our home.
