Birthday Surprise

I spent the next week in the Big House conversing with all the cabin leaders and Chiron. We discussed schedules for patrol, and we made sure to assign a cabin leader to each patrol. These meetings usually had lead to arguing, and sometimes stuff being thrown (all the times it was Clarisse). Finally, at the end of the week, we had made the perfect schedule.

However, that wasn't the end for me, I had the awful duty of sending the news to Annabeth and Percy, and unfortunately I couldn't call them because Chiron said it would attract more monsters, so I had to send a letter, which took me nearly half a day to write.

My next tedious task was trying to get the nymphs to help out with patrol. I was able to get the dryads to let me know where monsters were in the woods, and I got the wind nymphs to patrol the sky and alert me to whenever there were monsters approaching. However, this left me with a constant flow of messages, and I never got a break. The hour before breakfast, and after dinner was the time I spent gathering messages.

So when my birthday arrived, I didn't even realize it until a cake was placed down in front of me during dinner. "Happy Birthday!" Everyone in the dinning pavilion chorused. I nearly jumped out of my seat from where I was reading my notes from earlier.

"What?" I asked dazed as I looked up to see Connor holding a birthday hat, which he quickly placed on my head. I looked at the date that was written on top of my notes, and saw that it was indeed my birthday. "Huh."

"You really didn't notice?" Castor asked. "How can anyone forget about their birthday? It's literally a celebration of you." Of course the kid of Mr. D would say that.

I just shrugged. "I've been busy." I retorted.

"We've noticed." Will deadpanned. "I'm pretty sure if you got any busier, your hair is going to go gray. It's time for you to relax."

I stood up ignoring the cake that was in front of me. "I don't have time. I have nymphs to talk to. Willow has information on a pack of hellhounds that are roaming the forest." I grabbed my notebook that had my notes.

"That's already taken care of." Tamar said appearing beside me.

"What about patrols?" I asked.

"Clarisse is on duty right now with four other campers." Tasely, Clarisse's second, said.

I hesitated as I looked to everyone's expecting face. "Come one, Jamie." Silena, the leader of the Aphrodite leader, said. "We made a celebration for you and everything."

I gave a soft nod, because I knew they weren't going to let up. "Fine, but only for a bit." A few people cheered, and soon I was surrounded by campers who pulled me off towards the amphitheater.

Once I was pushed in, I stood there in shock. The amphitheater was filled with decorations from banners that said happy birthday, to streamers, and balloons. I fought back tears as I looked around. "You guys did this for me?" I asked turning to look at my friends. They all had large smiling faces. "Why?"

"Well," Katie said. "Siblings are usually the ones to celebrate a birthday, and since you don't have any, we figured we would all throw you one."

There was a long pause as some of the campers went to the snack table, which happened to have a large array of snacks on it, and at the far end there were a pile of different size presents. "You got me presents?" I asked my eyes prickling with tears, and I wasn't sure why, because stuff like this normally doesn't affect me.

"Of course." Maple said hugging my leg. That was enough to make me start crying. "I'm sorry, guys. I don't know why I'm crying."

"You're sleep deprived, and stressed." Will piped in. "Your emotions are on edge."
