Chapter 24 - The Danger

David couldn't help but have a sweaty, fearful sleep after being told he should be out of the investigation by the one he loves. He not only thought about it as he slept, but David had dreams of fear. Fear of something bad happening to Legosi if David isn't out there with him. David was then awoken by the morning nurse, different from the night nurse, and she says

"David? David, are you alright?" David sits up and wakes himself up

"I'm ok, I'm fine." The nurse made a doubtful look when replying

"You were tossing and turning a lot, you were sweating so much even. I thought you were turning ill." David gives off a chuckle to make light of the situation

"Trust me, I'm ok, nothing is wrong! I've never been sick before in my whole life." The nurse inspects David's leg, seeing that the swelling has gone down. She takes off the cold pack and goes to prepare a hot pack to help the knee with warming back up the muscles. It was weird for David to sleep with something cold wrapped around his leg the whole night, but it warmed up enough for it to feel like nothing. David looks at the clock and sees it reads 10:43 AM. Just then, a tray of breakfast is set in front of David by the nurse. He will have to spend the whole day in the clinic just to make sure the inflammation goes down and if nothing is broken.

[2 hours later]

David still sits in the bed reading a book, hasn't felt any pain in the leg so far, he's somewhat distracted from it. That distraction was broken when he heard Haru's voice

"Hey, David." His attention was now towards Haru, David guessed she was here to check up on him

"Haru! Good to see you! What's on your mind?" Haru takes a seat on the chair next to David, it would seem she had time to chat.

"It's free period, so I thought I'd check on you." Haru looks over at David's blanketed leg. "How are you feeling?" David feels his leg, it felt really cold from the cold pack, but there was hardly any pain

"Better, but I think the nurse is going to keep me here anyway. They know I get hurt a lot in school." David is calling back to his moments of getting into fights and being stabbed several times. He's taken a lot of abuse for someone his age. After dwelling a bit, David focuses his attention back to Haru and asks

"How have you been lately? Students still giving you a hard time?" Haru shrugs as she isn't sure if the bullying is getting better or worse

"No one dunked another bucket of water on me in a while, so I'm hoping things are getting better." David is surprised to hear Haru say that, he didn't think that's what bullies did.

"I'm sorry to hear that, I'm hoping for better too." Haru felt appreciative of David, but she couldn't help but think about what David said about himself getting hurt a lot. It made her think back to how busted up David and Legosi were when they went to save Haru from the Shishigumi. Haru rubbed her shoulder where she was shot, remembering a bit too much before saying

"So anyway, has Legosi dropped by?" David nods and says

"Yeah, he was the very first one to see me, actually." David felt troubled when thinking about Legosi, Haru noticed his down look and asked

"Is something wrong?" It wasn't something David wanted Haru to notice, but seeing as it was, he decided to tell Haru what was on his mind

"I suppose. When Legosi came to visit me, he wanted me to stay out of a problem he and I have. He doesn't want me getting hurt again, but I want to be there with him." Haru felt sorry for David, but she thought Legosi made a point, David gets hurt too much. She attempted to persuade David

"You know, it's common for couples to worry about each other and their well being. Think about it, how many times have you almost gotten killed because you were involved in something?" The question made David think about his injuries again, seeing what Haru's point was
