Chapter 9 - Death Stand-in

(Disclaimer: I just reread Beastars and saw that the play is on May 21-22, but in my book's case, the date will just be in August cuz that's kinda how I set it up to be already lol)

Two weeks pass, the play is only two days away, and right now, David was taking his weekly call with Henry. They both sounded enthusiastic to talk to one another. David was sitting against the window, alone in his dorm, saying

"I think I have had an interesting month so far, Henry, don't you agree?" Henry chuckles and says

"According to our previous talks, it sure has been, and now you have your play in a couple days, correct?"

"Mhm, I'm excited to have a role in it! You don't have to come to this one if you don't want to though, the only showings are on the 21st and 22nd." By the sound of it, Henry was thinking for a moment, then said

"I don't think I can make it to the first showing, but definitely the second." Despite this performance being for the new students and showing them how the drama club is a club that unites herbivores and carnivores, the parents or guardians of drama club members may attend, they just have to pay admission. David sounded excited when he heard Henry was making it to the show

"Awesome! I think you'll love it!" After a second of thinking, Henry decided to bring up a new topic

"How are your friends? You don't seem to talk about them a lot." David scratches the back of his head as he remembers how Legosi is acting different and the fact that Louis kept rehearsing only made his ankle heal slower, one wrong step and his ankle could break again.

"Well, I had to help trim my roommate's furs the other day, so that was something. Louis, the red deer, is getting an award today for helping our club stand out with our contributions. And Legosi... well, I'm not sure. He's been pretty different, but I've been giving him help where he needs it." Henry took a moment to process the information and said back

"I'm happy to hear that you've been staying in touch with friends! Now Louis, you said he was a red deer?" David wasn't sure if Henry didn't hear him say he was

"Mhm, an 18 year old red deer. Honestly, it surprises me just how much he has done for this school." Henry was silent again, but this time a second longer before speaking

"I see... anyway, I'm going to have to go now, David. This PowerPoint isn't going to make itself! See you later!" David smiles as he thinks about the next time he'll talk to Henry

"Ok! Bye, Henry! See you at the performance!" David ended the call and checked the clock on the wall for the time, it was 1:27 pm, the award ceremony was to begin at 3 pm, but David had to arrive an hour early to get dressed in his elegant school uniform wear and be up on the stage. It felt pointless to David for him and his fellow club members to be on the stage if it's just Louis receiving the award and making a speech, but he wasn't one to complain. A few minutes go by and right as it David to geting ready, Legosi walked into the dorm and David sees him

"Ah, there you are, Legosi. Here to get ready?" Legosi sets his bag on the floor and doesn't make eye contact with David, but replies

"Yeah, I figured now would be a good time to-" Legosi looks up at David and sees that he's in his underwear already. Legosi doesn't freak out about it since he's seen David like that more than once already, but like before, if he could, he would be blushing.

"To change clothes." David puts on his pants and Legosi stops focusing on David's lower region so that he may get ready. Once they have both changed clothes, David looks at Legosi and laughs

"Oh, now that's embarrassing! We wore the same thing!" Legosi didn't understand the joke at first, but then looked at himself and then back at David. Only then did he understand the joke and smiled about it as he said
