The last day of training was harder than the first; mostly because my body was ridiculously sore from yesterday.
"You alright?" Kai asks from beside me.
Once we had finished up for the day Kai and I packed up and started the long drive back home to Houston a day earlier than we planned. I was currently trying to get comfortable in the truck but my muscles were killing me. Luckily we were only about an hour out of Houston so it wouldn't be much longer.
"My body hurts." I groan.
Kai chuckles and shakes his head. "We'll be home soon... would you wanna stay with me tonight?"
"At the apartment?"
"Yeah, unless you told your mom you'd be home..." he says trailing off.
"I didn't" I say quickly.
Kai smiles and glances at me. "So will you stay?"
"May as well right?"
Kai chuckles and nods. "Good, I kinda got used to sleeping next to you..." he trails off.
I look at his side profile and notice his cheeks turning a light shade of pink.
"Awe you're blushing" I swoon as I reach over and brush his cheek with my hand.
"Shut up" he says as he swats my away, but I can still see the smile he's trying to hide.
He rests his hand on my thigh and we go back to a comfortable silence, but it's interrupted by the sound of my phone.
"It's Jane" I say confused. I hadn't spoken to her since the art gallery.
"Who?" Kai asks confused.
"You know the girl from the art gallery?"
"Oh the witch" he says, but he looks confused when I start laughing.
"What?"
"You just said oh the witch so nonchalantly. I don't know it's a bit surreal." I say once I finally stop laughing.
Kai smiles and shrugs his shoulders. "What did she say?" He finally asks.
"Just if I wanted to hang out sometime this week, I'll probably make some time. She's pretty cool and it would be nice having a friend I don't have to lie to." I remark.
"Have you heard from Jess at all?" Kai glances at me quickly and I can see a look of concern on his face.
I sigh at the thought of Jess. "No, I figure it's safer for her to not be around me. Maybe if this Ezekiel shit blows over I'll reach out."
Kai frowns but nods his head. "Well I think you're doing the right thing." He adds as he squeezes my thigh reassuringly.
I really hoped I was.

Kai and I arrive back at his place pretty late. I expected to be exhausted by the time we got here but I was wide awake.
"I'm not driving for the rest of my life. You're gonna have to be my chauffeur for a while." Kai jokingly says as he opens the front door to his apartment. I know he was joking but I did feel bad at how much he had been doing recently. It feels like ever since the night of the ball things have been coming at us one thing after the other and it wasn't over yet.
We'd be training for the next 4 weeks, as well as going to the event in Alice in about 2 weeks, and to top it off I was supposed to be starting my job soon. I was still excited for it, but I had been so immersed in the mystical creature world for so long I had almost forgot I had a real life away from all of this mess we were in. I had received a confirmation email from Andrew Marks the artist I'd be working for a few days ago. I had considered quitting the job then but I hated the idea of letting Ezekiel ruin an amazing opportunity for me.
