| chapter two | we meet again, angel « i wanna steal your soul and hide you in my treasure chest »
Staring out at the city from their school's rooftop, Hyewon let out a tired sigh. Beside her, Yoon was too busy looking elsewhere to notice her sighs and huffs of boredom.
"I wonder what Hani is up to, I haven't seen her since lunch," Hyewon muttered and Yoon nodded. "She probably found herself a play toy somewhere and is torturing them," he chuckled.
"Demons are going to be banned from the world if she doesn't stop killing for fun," she sighed.
"Says you, you and Hani are unstoppable," Yoon scoffed, "Was your past so horrible that you have this much rage inside of you?" He laughed. His question made Hyewon frown, but she turned away before he could see her.
"Speaking about pasts, you've never told me about yours. What was it like? What tragedy happened that you were reincarnated as a demon?" He asked.
"It's a long story," she shrugged not wanting to tell him about her past misfortunes. "Maybe some other time."
"You're so mysterious, Hyewon," Yoon narrowed his eyes at her. "But I get it." He patted her back and she leaned her head on his shoulder.
They stayed in silence, eyes raking the city before them. But the silence didn't last long as the door to the rooftop busted open with a large thump.
Yoon, as if on instinct, stood up, standing in front of Hyewon in a protective stance. Hyewon stood up as well, peeking over his shoulder to see what the commotion was about. Her eyes instantly widened.
"Oh, you guys are here," the demon chuckled as she kept her foot planted onto the angel's chest cutting his breathing short.
"Where did you find him, Hani?" Yoon chuckled, walking toward the other two. Hyewon stood still, staring at the familiar angel who stared back at her, desperately.
"On the street," the two kept their eyes on him, like predators ogling their prey. "It seems he doesn't know how to mind his own business, so I thought I'd teach him a lesson."
"There are serious consequences to this," the Angel squirmed on the floor trying to remove her foot.
"Your God can't do anything about this," Hani removed her foot, squatting beside him. She tilted his face with her finger. "You're helpless."
Renjun looked back at Hyewon who was still in a daze. Her mind was conflicted. She didn't know if she should help him or tease him along with the other demons. But she also didn't know why she wanted to help someone like him. Was it the desperation in his eyes?
"Hyewon," At the sound of her name, the dazed demon snapped back into reality. She looked at Hani and Yoon. "What do you think of him? Isn't he so...pure? Just your type, no?"
Hyewon looked back at Renjun who struggled on the hard ground of the rooftop. A small grin formed on her lips as she walked over to the three.
"Exactly my type," she leaned down kneeling beside Hani. She trailed a finger along the angel's jawline, glaring into his eyes.
"Shall we leave the two of you alone?" Hani stood up walking over to Yoon and linking their arms. The two began walking away. "Don't put him through hell for too long."
"I won't." Hyewon smiled watching as they left the two alone. Once the door shut, they remained in silence, Renjun avoided her eyes.
She huffed and stood up holding her hand out. Reluctantly, Renjun took her hand and stood up from the floor. He dusted himself off before meeting her piercing gaze.
"We meet again, Renjun," Hyewon smiled at him, enunciating his name with long syllables. The timid angel simply nodded. "I thought I warned you about getting into a demon's business."
He recalled their former encounter.
"I can't help it," he uttered.
"Well then you should stay away from here, and places where demon's hang around," she tells him, "I was here to help you now but I can't guarantee a second time, nor do I want to."
"I can't stay away from here," the angel mumbled. Hyewon furrowed her brows. "I study here, since yesterday."
"This place is surrounded by Demons, the very few Angels that came here didn't even last a week," the girl chuckled at the memory of the angels running off because of the merciless demons.
"I know but I can't go against His word," Renjun shrugged his shoulders, knowing the consequences that followed any misbehavior. "I was put here for a reason."
"That's pathetic, it seems that your great God is only trying to get you killed," she laughed in a ridiculing manner.
There was silence again. They exchanged small glances but neither uttered a word.
"You're not going to do anything to me?" Renjun broke the silence first.
Noticing her expression fade into a more serious one, he pursed his lips together, regretting ever speaking up.
"Why? Do you want me to do something to you?" Hyewon leaned in, his face only a few inches away from hers. "Should we have some fun, Renjun?"
