| chapter thirty-two |
why does loving him..
« i was only falling in love »

Full Name : Cho Hyewon.
Date of Birth : December 27, 2000
Date of Death : December 26, 2020
Cause of Death : Suicide

"Is this you?" A white paper was shoved into the just awakened girl's face. She looked up at the entity holding the paper.

A spirit?

"A-Am I finally dead?" she asked.

The spirit hummed in response. "I am here to lead you to your next destination. "You have the option to a) forgive the people in your past life that have done you wrong and become an Angel, b) become a Demon and seek revenge for your unjust death, or c) forget everything and move on to your second life."

The newly deceased Hyewon pondered deeply between her three options. She wanted to become an Angel to take care of her mother and her sister, who she selfishly left behind.
Though she hated cruelty, at the moment, along with her pent-up resentment, the choice of becoming a Demon seemed to be tempting her because the man that crushed her will to live didn't deserve to live in peace either.

"It is all up to you, Hyewon."

She looked up at the Angel and smiled sadly. Once again, Hyewon chose to be selfish. She chose to heal her wounds by causing them in other people. She only hurt the people that deserved to be hurt, however; people like the man that hurt her for months on end.

Yet, somehow, it wasn't enough.

Hyewon realized too late that being a demon didn't bring her the peace that she deserved. She chose wrong. Sometimes, as she lived as a demon, she looked at the Angels. She admired them and she imagined her life as one. The genuine peace she might have been able to feel if she was one of them.

She was always curious about Angels, and curious is all she ever was because she was stuck as a Demon and there was no turning back time.

. . .

Anger is all Hyewon could feel as she appeared before Lucifer; beside him stood a proud Hani. Others would normally feel great fear if they stood in front of merciless Satan, but Hyewon was tired of being hurt this way. Everyone in Hell was laughing at her and ridiculing her feelings for an Angel.

"Why did you do that?" Hyewon fearlessly stormed toward the two. "Must you cause him more pain than he already feels?"

"It's funny, is it not?" Hani dared to speak and it took every ounce in Hyewon's body to stop herself from attacking her right then and there.

Hyewon scoffed, "You are so fucking cruel."

"What else do you expect?" Hani shamelessly spoke again. By the expression on her face, Hyewon could tell that she felt like she was better than anyone else just because she stood beside Satan. "We are Demons, made for revenge and to cause chaos. Although, I can't really say that about you, Hyewon. How are you still infatuated with that Angel? I thought it would only last one week max, but three months? Now, that's a record. You need to wake up already."

Having enough of Hani's words, Hyewon approached her with heavier, angrier steps. Her eyes bore into the other girl's. "And you need to get your head out of your fucking ass."

"Cho Hyewon."

Before she could get to Hani, she stopped dead in her tracks. It wasn't that she was scared of Satan, but the rumble of his voice was an eerie indescribable sound. It was the type of voice that roared in one's chest and made the body freeze. It was haunting.

"How weak," He spoke again. "I had high hopes for you. I thought you would be one of my very best. Why would you go and fall for our prey?" Satan looked her up and down, judging Hyewon very openly; she couldn't stand it any longer.

"Why does loving him make me weak?" The Demon nearly whispered the word. Although her voice cracked, her glare remained sharp. She was unwilling to back out or cower in His presence. "Love is not a weakness. Just because you two couldn't receive any. . .that doesn't mean everyone else should be deprived of it."

"Pathetic." He grumbled and summoned her closer. Once she was within reach, He gripped her from her neck, sinking the tips of His long nails into her skin.

Hyewon winced, yet still didn't cower. She matched his energy. She was willing to take on anyone and anything.

"You were once an Angel too," Hyewon struggled to speak under his tight grip that was already causing her to spit out blood. "You..just never were satisfied. How could you ever be satisfied with anything though? You are selfish. You can't bear the fact that peo—people are braver and stronger than you will ever be!"

"No." He growled and knocked her into the nearest wall. Hyewon lost her breath from the impact and struggled to stand up. "No one can ever be better than me! Tell me. Who will ever top the Angel that rebelled against the Almighty Deity?"

Once Hyewon stood up, face bloody and clothes torn, her fierce eyes stared into Satan's angry eyes.

She said, with utmost confidence, "The Demon that rebelled against Satan. Me."
