ANDRIETTE LOUISE DE VERA
"Took you long enough" Mr. De Leon was sitting rigidly. Intimidating waves were rolling off him like warning signals. Daring people to talk or even look at him the wrong way.
"I'm sorry sir. I'll be sure to follow you faster next time" my monotone voice almost sounded unfamiliar to my own ears.
Almost.
I sat down on my usual seat, which is the passenger's one. Just as I was about to settle down, Mr. De Leon cleared his throat a little bit too loudly.
"Ms. De Vera. This car won't move without a driver and I don't expect myself to go and drive you around like some damn princess" He bristled.
I could feel multiple stares at my head as I wordlessly got off the car and climed on the driver's seat. Shutting the door a little too loudly, I started the car.
"To the company. And make it fast. Your stalling made me run behind schedule"
Shut the fuck up I wanted to hiss. But I couldn't. So I hardened my grip on the leather steering wheel.
And didn't he just cancel all his schedules?
"Maddy?" Mr. De Leon took a glance on Madeline who was comfortably seated next to Jake.
"3:00 pm sharp. You have 30 minutes left until the emergency meeting sir"
Oh. Okay then.
"Who even sets up emergency meetings so urgently?" Mr. De Leon all but whined on the back seat.
"Its called emergency meeting for a reason, Jax" Jake cut in smoothly.
"Yeah but shouldn't they atleast call an hour before the actual meeting?"
"I informed you one hour ago that a emergency meeting would be called by the council" Madeline said slowly, as if talking to a small child.
That left Mr. De Leon speechless for a few moments.
A few moments later..
"Ms. De Vera, why are we going at a snail's pace? Didn't you just hear that I have a meeting less than," he checked his watch, "ten minutes?"
I didn't answer just yet. Making everyone panic while avoiding a car chase isn't an option. But I know it can't be avoided.
I've noticed it for a few minutes now. A blue car had been following us since we left the restaurant. I let it pass for a minute. We were in a highway, multiple cars join you from time to time.
But it had been 20 minutes. And it was still following us. The only way to confirm the theory was slowing down, to see if they pass by us. Speeding up would only alarm them.
And now, I got all the confirmation I need.
"Ms. De Vera" Mr. De Leon's voice was low.
"Someone is tailing us, sir" Madeline looked scared shitless. Jake mirrored her expression. Mr. De Leon had a passive look on his face, like he's been in this situation hundreds of times.
He probably was. Who knows?
And Jay was emotionless. He now stood rigid and alert. His eyes were hard as steel, lips in a thin line. His jaw was clenched hard and his hands were curled into fists. Bulging veins slithered around his strong muscular arms like snakes.
If it wasn't for the circumstances, I'll gladly stop on the side of the road and tell him how hot he looks.
A sudden popping noise made me break out of my thoughts. The familiar rush of adrenaline made my heart pump faster. Almost deafening me in the process.
