ANDRIETTE LOUISE DE VERA
The ride was uncomfortable. My back was rigid and an uncomfortable feeling kept pestering me, making me jittery all over. I kept throwing glances at Mr. De Leon. As if all the answers to my questions would be written at his face.
I knew that there was a possibility. But it's only been about two weeks! there's no way a person can develop feelings that fast.
The air inside the air conditioned vehicle suffocated me. So I drove faster, wanting to get away as soon as possible.
The moment I parked the car, I quickly opened the car door and hopped outside, inhaling the fresh breath of air. I waited for them to walk ahead first, before walking behind them. Hands behind my back.
"Madeline, I would like you to call the airport later tonight. Connect me to the call if you've managed to ring them-" I stopped listening when we entered the mansion. Mrs. De Leon instantly hugged them all except forJake. She seemed to have a grudge at the boy who awkwardly lowered his hands back into his sides.
"I thought you'll be back for lunch? Did you eat out instead?" Mrs. De Leon said as she happily walked towards her kitchen. Her body moved like clockwork. The moment everyone was sat down and comfortable she already has juice and sandwiches ready.
"We stopped by a police station, maam" I answered instead since everyone was busy eating like no tommorow.
"Adonis.. What did you do? again?" Mrs. De Leon crossed her arms.
"He almost killed a man" Jake suddenly piped up from his seat.
"I did not!" he defended. "I crossed the road without looking. The car hit a building to save my ass"
Mrs. De Leon rolled her eyed and looked at me instead.
"Mr. De Leon stormed off with no particular reason, maam. I followed him. I didn't get to see the actual incident, but the driver thankfully explained everything" I told her.
"If you wanted to die early you could've just told me" Mrs. De Leon stated casually. But her body language told us otherwise.
She was cleaning the plates loudly. Not caring if some of them broke or not. A series of clangs and glass breaking made everyone uncomfortable. It was entertaining to watch though.
Everyone ate silently. The sound of pans and glass banging with each other still continued even after everyone finished their sandwiches. Then, it all abruptly stopped. Mrs. De Leon slowly turned around and faced us all, a smile etched on her face.
Okay.. that's creepy.
"I'm sorry Mama. I've been careless and stupid. It won't happen again" Mr. De Leon had his head bowed. I snickered. But sadly nobody heard as it was muffled by the mask I wore.
"Okay. Just get ready later. We are going to have a family movie night" I was about to leave to let them discuss their family movie night, but I was stopped when Mrs. De Leon mentioned my name.
"And Louise. You'll be joining too"
"Maam-"
"I won't take no for an answer, iha" she cut me off.
Now I know where Mr. De Leon got his stubbornness from.
I gave her a curt nod, telling myself that it's only going to be a one time thing. I don't want to repeat another mask incident.
Mrs. De Leon smiled, satisfied with the answer she got.
"Okay then. I'll be seing you guys later at 7. Wear the most comfortable pajamas you own. Anyone who comes late will be washing the dishes"
