There were a few things Greg learned when he first came to film the states.

Holy shit the states are alive.

Half of them are crazy

There's so many pairings of couples he'd need a notebook to keep them all on track.

Still a gig was a gig, and Greg needed all he could get when the pandemic first hit. He appeared at the house, dubbed the Statehouse, a few weeks into June, expecting the states to be hard working, serious, and nothing interesting about their lives whatsoever.

When Florida answered the door in an oversized purple flannel, and waved his arms around like he was a helicopter to greet Greg, Greg knew he was in for a time.

The states were nice, for the most part; he continuously had to bleep all the northeastern states, he filmed nearly a hundred near-fights between the southern states, and the less he said about Louisiana and Florida's antics the better. Still it was the best job Greg had for awhile, and he was paid pretty well compared to those other jobs, thanks to DC who always made sure the checks came in on time.

DC, that was another mystery.

Greg had figured DC was used to being on camera, after all he was the actual goddamn government, but whenever Greg sat him down DC became a deer in the headlights, staring at the lens, imagining the millions of people who could be watching him. Greg could barely get two words out of him; DC would fumble and shift, shuffle his feet and try to look everywhere but the lens. The soundman knew he had to find some way to get him to relax, so he opened up his bag of tricks and went to the oldest one in the book.

He started making DC laugh.

Whenever he sat DC down to get ready to film and DC began talking nervously, Greg would start making jokes or pulling faces behind the camera to make him laugh. DC was confused at first, but he always broke into hard laughter, relaxing him and getting him ready to talk. It made for some interesting bloopers as Greg was editing the episodes, and he always found himself smiling as he watched DC's face go from stressed and nervous to hysterical and relaxed.

But why should Greg keep these to himself?

"Hey you guys got a second?" Greg asked, popping his head into the kitchen.

"Oooh nice you want to film more of me and Loui's adventures?" Florida asked excitedly.

"No, I'm still traumatized from the last one." Greg said with a shudder. "I just had some cuts that I thought you guys might be interested in." Greg moved into the kitchen and cut a spot next to California and Texas. He pulled out his iPad and pulled up a video from the editing bay, making sure the five other states could see it before pressing play.

"DC talking head, take one." Greg said behind the camera, clapping his hands then stepping back to reveal DC sitting in frame. DC gulped a little and was clearly trying to focus, as his brain scrambled with what to say.

"S-So today's meeting we...." DC glanced up behind the camera and suddenly broke into a smile. "G-Greg what the hell! Stop it!" The fed burst into laughter, face going red, and struggling to stay in his chair.

"That's so cute!" California cooed, not even attempting to hide his smile.

"Oh there's more." Greg said moving to the next clip.

"The meeting was a mess, Kentucky and Ohio got into a fight and then...." DC tried to fight a smile as he noticed something happening behind the camera. "Florida was....Greg I swear to God..." DC ordered trying to keep his professional face. He eventually broke down into laughter, clutching his stomach and trying desperately to keep it together.

"Your boyfriend got very nervous in the beginning of filming these, so I had to make him comfortable somehow." Greg explained.

"Play it again!" Florida ordered clearly amped up.

"Whoa wait chaos gremlin, there's more." Greg ordered going to the next clip.

"Hey Dee?" Greg called from behind the camera as DC began situating himself.

"Mm?"

"Interrupting cow."

"Interrupting cow who--"

"MOO." DC nearly spit the water he was drinking out, choking out laughter, and clutching his sides.

"That joke was bad, son." Texas pointed out but as Greg noted, he couldn't keep his eyes off the screen. Most of the clips Greg showed the main five were exactly like the first, DC nervously sitting down for an interview and nearly collapsing from laughter at something Greg had done or some joke he told. The main five were entrapped with the video, loving the sight of their boyfriend, who was normally so stressed and overworked, laughing and looking carefree.

"So whatcha think?" Greg asked after the last video played.

"Hey uh." New York adjusted his jacket and tried to hide his blush. "Can we all get copies of that?" Greg smiled and tucked his iPad back into his jacket.

"I can see if I can have that arranged." Greg said with a wink.

Working for the states was weird, it was challenging at times, and most days all Greg wanted to do was give up the career and go back to medical school like his mother wanted.

But seeing the happy faces of the main five, at the surprise video he put together for them of DC's outtakes, made this entire adventure worth it.
